Does your office use a PBX system where you have to dial a 9 before gaining access to outside line. Are you using one touch buttons do they have the 9 included. Is the machine connected to a analog phone line not a digital line has to old POT line not a digital. Using a two line phone line? take the line from the wall look at the connector do you see four wires or two at the connector green, yellow, black and red. If so get only a two wire cable. Do you have EMI collar on the phone line? Check the line with a old "Princess Phone" from radio shack.. Move the copier to a different wall outlet. Have a tech check the fax connections and setting on the copier.

Instructions
  1. Check the phone line connected to your fax machine for problems. This is one of the most common reasons fax machines don't work. Connect the phone line to a regular telephone and listen for a dial tone. If you don't have a dial tone, replace the phone cord to see if that was the problem. If that isn't the problem, test the other phone lines in the office. If the other lines aren't working, contact your phone provider to have them fix the phone line.
  2. Look at the electrical cord of your fax machine if the unit won't power on or work at all. Check that the cord is properly plugged into the wall and into the back of your fax machine. If it is, and it still isn't working, replace the cord.
  3. Inspect the lamp on your fax machine to see if it is working properly. Fax machines may receive faxes, but not send them if the bulb is burned out.
  4. Open the cover to your fax machine if you are getting complaints that your fax machine isn't sending quality faxes. Do this by pulling on the front panel of the unit. Using a soft cloth, clean out the dust and debris from this front panel. Accumulation of dirt here could definitely be the problem.
  5. Watch for any toner or ink splotches on the inside of your fax machine. If your copies or faxes aren't printing at a high quality, you may have an ink problem. When you shake your toner cartridge, it should shake cleanly and no toner should leak out. If you have a leaky cartridge, it is bad.

My fax machine wont send or receive faxes any suggestions?

If it is properly connected to the jack in the machine and the wall, and it won't send OR receive...then it's NOT a simple problem, because nothing else need be done for the machine to at least "send" a fax.

My HP M1319f fax machine is having trouble sending faxes only to certain phone numbers. Is this a problem with the actual machine, or the phone line?

I have purchased the HP M1319f multipurpose machine 1 year ago and expected it to print as well as fax. Sadly to say 1 year later, the printing works as expected but the fax never worked consistently for me. The solution I found was to buy a used fax machine and only use the HP M1319f as a printer.

The problem I've read about this problem on HP forums was the fax speed of the M1319f. It is locked to 28.8k which means it is only able to communicate with some fax machines. Older machines that doesn't support 28.8 will get errors and the fax will fail. This is definately an HP problem but considering I purchased this 1 year ago, this problem will never be fixed. Avoid this printer at all costs if your considering to use the fax machine.

I am having problems receiving a fax.

Check the number of rings your fax machine is set to. Chances are, the answering machine is set up for 4 rings and the fax machine is set up for 6. If this is the case, change the number of rings on your fax machine to 2 or 3 rings to ensure an incoming fax will go directily to the fax machine. If the fax doesn't recognize the call as a fax, it will go through to the answering machine.

Cannot receive faxes

What is the make and model?

Call the fax machine from a regular phone to see if it answers.

I think you have some sort of phone line problem.

Fax machine modems are good or bad, nothing in-between.

Brother 4100e Fax Problem - Caller ID won't work with Fax Machine

Usually, fax machines don't have caller ID capability.. If the sender's fax number appears on the faxes you receive, it's just that they have programmed it into their fax machine as a header.

Fax machine receives faxes but does not print faxes.

This maybe totally independent of the fax machine but rather the printer part of it, what type of fax machine, if it's an all in one printer fax scanner, then it's time to add toner or you may have a printer head problem, what machine do you have?

Can't receive fax but can send

Call your cell phone from the fax machine and check the caller ID to make sure that it is the correct number for your fax machine. Next, call the fax machine from you cell phone, and make sure the fax machine rings. Problems like these are almost always a phone line issue, not the machine.
