You need to update the firmware to resolve the issue, but here are some pre-steps:
Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged
Try another USB port
Reset the player

If that fails:
Download the newest version of the Philips Device Manager:
www.usasupport.philips.com - change your country/language as needed
Enter in your exact model #
Click on the link for your exact model #
Click on the Software & Drivers section
Click on "Firmware Upgrade Software"
Install the new Device Manager
Open and run the "Repair" tab

If still nothing:
Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

If these methods fail, call Philips to see if you are still in-warranty.

There is a small tiny hole which is the RESET to the player Use a small office pin to pres and hold as the processor will reset . Also remove or uninstall the gogear on the PC and restart. Now connect the go gear and it will be detected as a new hardware and installed. If not there are errors on the player and to confirm test it on another PC.

When I try to turn on the MP3 (Philips GoGear Mix) I see a symbol of a battery and then it shuts down. When I plug the MP3 to the computer it shows it is fully charged. What shell I do? Thanks

I have had a GoGear for a while and those things have horrible firmware and are very fragile. I have experienced the same issue myself, so I suggest leaving it plugged in for several hours no matter what the screen says to try and let it charge. It should charge up. If not, try charging via a usb wall charger, which should allow usage of the player while it charges.

Hi,

Please follow the below steps and check if that resolves the issue:

  1. Press down on and hold the "Power" button on your Philips GoGear MP3 player.
  2. Press down on and hold the "Volume Up" button on your Philips GoGear MP3 player. Continue to hold both of these buttons down for three consecutive seconds. The MP3 player will turn itself off.
  3. Press and hold "Power" until your Philips GoGear MP3 player turns itself back on. Your GoGear will no longer be frozen and you can use it as normal.
If you require further assistance then please revert back.

I was charging my media player and now it is stuck in charge mode?

Hi,Reset your GoGear with something sharp like the tip of a pen or the end of a paper clip, if you're device isn't working properly or there's a frozen display. Insert the sharp object into the "Reset" hole (located at the bottom of the player), and hold it there until the device turns off. If resetting the device does nothing to restore the display, access the "Philips Device Manager" through your computer to recover the GoGear.

Click "Start" on your computer, then "Programs," "Philips Digital Audio Player," "Aria Device Manager," and then "Philips Device Manager." This will launch the "Philips Device Manager." Make sure the GoGear is turned off completely. Connect your GoGear to your computer while holding down the "Volume Up" button. Continue to hold the "Volume Up" button on your GoGear, until the "Philips Device Manager" recognizes the device and enters recovery mode. Click the "Repair" button when it appears on your computer, then follow the steps to fully recover the GoGear. Properly disconnect your GoGear from your computer and restart the device.

Recharge your device if your GoGear dies suddenly while playing. Connect the GoGear to your computer via the supplied USB cord. Plug one end of the USB cord into a functional, open USB port on your computer. Plug the free, smaller end of the USB cord firmly into the small USB jack on your GoGear and turn your computer on. This will begin the charging process of your GoGear. If recharging doesn't work, the battery may need to be replaced. Check that your GoGear isn't in standby mode. Hold the "Power" button for two seconds to turn it back on.

Good luck.

GoGear Aria reset stuck in, will not turn on.

Have you reset the player? Reset the player by holding the off-switch and the volume-+ (plus) switch.
If this doesn't help try this: Connect your player to the pc that has the Philips device manager running, then reset the player by holding the off-switch and the volume-+ (plus) switch. As soon as the player shuts off, press and hold the volume- - (minus) switch. The Philips device manager will recognize the player now, and recommend a repair, let it do so.

Philips HDD1630 MP3 Player about 2 years old, no excessive use, won't charge any more or be seen by computer. Only shows low battery on screen then dies. I am a little technically incline, can anyone tell...

You may have to change the battery, but try Reset, Repair, and Update (firmware upgrade) first. Also, there is an FAQ on the Philips website for the computer does not recognize device issue (but only follow it AFTER you have tried reset, repair, and update).

Open Philips Device Manager and try repairing the device. [connect your GoGear to the computer, open Philips Device Manager (Start-->All Programs-->Philips), and click on the repair tab. Now, disconnect your GoGear from computer. Turn the GoGear off if it is not already. Press and hold the volume + key and connect the GoGear to the computer (while still pressing the volume +). A window will pop up saying a repair is being performed. now you can let go of the Volume + button. The repair will get your device working normally again. WARNING: the repair process will delete any music/other media file from your GoGear.]

After repair, perform a firmware upgrade ("Update" tab in Philips Device Mgr while GoGear is connected to computer - see Philips website for more details)

Worst case scenario - Even rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charging cycles. The battery for the SA178 is an LI-Polymer 300mAh 12-hr battery. Philips won't fix it for you, but you might want to find a local repair service.
