wharfdale TVs are rebadged by Argos, so I am unsure of the actual manufacturer, and therefore the control signal scheme that they use.
It might help if you gave the model number of the particular TV, as they could be using several different manufacturers in their range of televisions.
it is unlikely there will be a single code that covers the whole range of Wharfdale Tvs
You can't. Time to upgrade. See if anyone is selling a used Apple TV on ebay. I know a lot of people were selling theirs in anticipation that Apple was going to announce a new one but they never did. Nonetheless, this did drive down prices on secondhand units. Look for a used third-gen if you want 1080p support or a 2nd gen if you only need 720p.

GOOD LUCK THESE ARE THE CODES LISTED FOR YOUR REMOTE/
I recently found a remote that does work for this TV. Its a DirecTV model RC64. The codes listed in the book do not work. So you must do a channel search. It's not that far down the list so it doesn't take that much time. I hope this helped those concerned.
