If the TV is older than 3-5 years or do, it is probably an LCD model with a fluorescent backlight. These backlights have issues with the inverter boards and/or the tubes failing over time. This is why newer flat-panels have gone to LED backlighting. Without the backlight, the picture is actually on the screen, but you aren't able to view it because there is no light to illuminate it. These CAN be repaired, but the cost of new TVs makes it almost most cost-effective to upgrade to an LED TV.

SOURCE: TV turn on and off

Your TV has a power problem, it maybe high or low supply voltage that causes the TV to turn it self off because of an error. A technician from the manufacturer knows what error it has just by looking at the flashing standby light. Best is to take it to an authorize service center for repair... ^_^

SOURCE: frozen picture on LG LCD 37"

Try One of your working TVS and connect it to your cable outlet of the TV that is having problems. If that TV Does not work then there may be a degraded fitting or the Leg coming of the splitter to that outlet could have a Low Signal Problem
Next Take the First TV that was not working properly and put it on the cable outlet of one of the TVs that is working properly and if the TV set works on that Channel then you know it is not your TV that it must be the cable

SOURCE: I lose my picture it

You need a lamp. This is a common symptom. I hope this helps. I have a tutorial on the function and failure of lamps, check it out if you like. It explains why your TV is doing this. I hope this was helpful.

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.

KDF E60A20 screen goes blank loses sound for 10 60 seconds

I've had this same problem ongoing for a couple weeks. Finally, tonight it would shut off every 20-30 seconds, stay off for another 20-30 seconds then come back on. It turned out to be my bulb. I blew the TV out with compressed air, removed the bulb and disassembled it. Taking the bulb out of the plastic cage I then remove one of the metal screens at the top of the bulb, it just has little clips holding it in. I took a bottle of rubbing alcohol, some Q-tips and proceeded to clean the inside of the bulb through the screen hole. After cleaning the inside I put the screen back in, cleaned the outside of the bulb with a rag and alcohol, then reassembled everything. The TV is much brighter, I had to turn down the brightness setting and has been running the last few hours without an issue. You can avoid all this by buying a new bulb but I don't have the money right now to replace it and I'm cheap so I'll milk this bulb for everything it has. Heat kills bulbs so if you clean the screens and blow out the TV once every couple months you'll get a lot of life out of it..... I'm almost to 4 years on my original bulb and my TV is on constantly!! Good luck to all!!

Intermitant color bursts of red, green, purple

Kevin,

for the color problem, most likely you do have problem with loose contact of components from C-board ( small board connected at the back of CRT "picture tube" which drives every color and size of the screen)if you have knowledge with soldering electronic component parts, resolder this board and also check main board for possible loose contact.

cheers,

My Sony comes on then both sound and picture goes black.

After being on a little while, the screen goes black (no audio as well) for 20 to 30 seconds. Green light stays on. Then, picture comes back on and takes a couple of seconds to get up to full brightness. About 5 seconds or so after the video comes back, the audio returns.

Until this morning, has only happened a couple of times a day, now happening more often. About 3 times in last 20 minutes.

KDF-E55A20 is about 3 years old.
