If the unit reads bottom sitting still but doesn't when moving it's due to air bubbles passing over the transducer face. Go to Airmar website and search for installation instructions.

SOURCE: Lowrance LMS522c transducer

Probably not. Usually the transducer is made specifically for the head unit it is designed for. More often than not, transducers are not interchangeable, particularly across brands. Also, for best results, you really want to install the transducer that came with your new lowrance. That will give you the best results and sonar clarity.

Hope that helps!

SOURCE: Lowrance LCX 28c HD with Navionics HotMaps Premium SD chip. Chip worked fine last fall but when I went to use yesterday the Lowrance would not read the chip.

I had the same problem with my handheld Lowrance Hunt C. After installing the card and locking it in place, I had to slide the card "out" toward the locking mechanism. It barely moves, but worked after that. Whenever I load the card, I now slide it out or wiggle it and it works every time.

SOURCE: problem with interference lowrance x25fishfinder

Transducer will stop getting readings if it gets air under it. If it's lower surface is too much above or below the bottom of your boat, this can happen.

SOURCE: lowrance x135 not functioning properly

Had the same issue with another brand. Turned out the transducer cable was picking up noise from other cables (power, trolling mtr. etc). Try moving the transducer cable away from any other cables. I put the cable in a 1/4 " plastic housing up to the point where it was above deck and it stopped all the strange stuff. Not sure about the temp issue??

Lowrance depth finder doesn't work when boat goes over 5 mph

Quits working or stops reading the bottom? THE transducer is the culprit. Make sure it stays in contact with the water when running... BUT - NOT too deep in the water so as to cause water flow disturbance!!!

The depth finder on my elite 5 Lowrance blinks if I go over 14 mph. And the screen gets very hot after a few minutes of run time?

Hey Robert,
the blinking is usually the result of the transducer losing contact with the water..
As far as the screen getting hot.. that is not good.. do you have this unit mounted in dash? It needs some ~cooling.. just some airflow..

My lowrance elite 4 HDI goes black when i get on plane so my backtrack feature doesnt work

The speed of your boats travel only directly affects your sonars ability to read the water depth.
your backtrack feature is GPS based. These is not affected by your boat being on plane.

Your screen being black sounds like your sonar is losing bottom contact due to air bubbles passing under the transducer. This is a common occurrence with most boats.

Add some details regarding what your seeing and we can help you get a better handle on your difficulty.

The GPS component of my Lowrance Elite-5 Gold is malfunctioning about 50% of the time.

Hey Les, Since you have replace both the unit and transducer, you have eliminated/diagnosed most of your problem.. Its in the wiring... sometime when I am in full GPS mode I get erroneous depth readings..?? Have you tried a different GPS module (the "puck")?
