I have a clicking sound and my shifter wiggles with every clicking sound in 2nd and 3rd gears, 1st gear is fine. It's as if it is slipping off of the gear latching ramps. I checked out the transmission and ever part looks perfect. It seems like the motor should be rotating in the other direction. Which way should it rotate (looking down onto the trans)? It is a 115/120V motor can the direction be changed counter clock to clock wise? I did have to take the motor apart and out to clean it all up. It seems the motor went back together correctly. I also replaced all the bearings and seals in the trans and planetary. Baffled! 1965 model - this isn't like the old U frame motors, Is It?
Switching the incoming white and black wires didn't work Still rotating counter clock wise even tried switching wires at the switch, didn't work still spining in wrong direction.Switching the incoming white and black wires didn't work Still rotating counter clock wise even tried switching wires at the switch, didn't work still spining in wrong direction.

There is a small diving key in the gearbox that has most likely snapped. If this is an old model a200 then this part may not be avaliable any more. You would need to contact your local hobart service center to find out if the parts are avaliable still. These are fantastic machine that will work forever and a year, they certainly don't build them like those anymore
Jeff your almost there....it must be the shifter into third....it must not slide fully into third....check for wear marks on the worm gear....and try running it without the protective cover on to see how it changes from 1st, into 2nd, then third...that mechanisim if not engaging totally in third.
I took mine apart completely and reassembled everything and greased everything and mine is doing the same thing. I'm thinking, also, that it is the tightening of the top lock nut.
Best guess is that the gear for 3rd speed is seized together with it's brass bushing and the center, large transmission shaft. I don't recall which gear is for 3rd, but the transmission has two gears (2nd and 3rd speed) which have brass bushings in them. The brass bushing should spin freely on the center shaft (when in final position - sometimes they pull off the shaft tough, but spin freely when in final position, my opinion is that this is OK), and the gear should spin freely of the brass bushing. My guess is that the 3rd speed gear, being seized to the center shaft, cannot freely idle on the center shaft, which would result in being stuck in 3rd gear.
do you have a spauge cutch first gear or a diving key locking type? sheck shifting collar for being rounded off on the gear and the collar they get rouned off and won't lock gear in.
Remove the shiny drip ring on the planetary, use a small screwdriver and gently pry it off. Remove the "Tapered pin" that holds the planetary on the shaft, gently use a punch and a hammer to do this. This pin can only be tapped out in one direction. Pull downward on the planetary assembly until it comes free. Examine the small gear and bearing for excessive wear, examine the ring gear that remains in the mixer body for wear. Clean and re-grease these gears if they look OK. These gears are in operation in any gear and as such, receive the most wear. When re-assembling the planetary re-install the tapered pin the way it came out. The previous solution will address the transmission gearing. Replace parts as necessary. Good luck. Please rate this solution if it helps you. ricardok45
CE is the marking that shows its european conformant. I think the difference is mostly in terms of the no volt interlock switch. This means the KA style N50 bowl won't work with the CE models - too low.
