How can I get my laptop to recognize my JVC GZ-HD3?

I plug the camcorder into the computer using the USB, I double check that the camcorder is ready for backup and in USB mode BUT my computer will not show the camera. Running Windows 7 on a Dell laptop.

It is going to be a software or firmware problem. If you go to the JVC site you should be able to find a download to fix or patch the problem.

SOURCE: PC does not recognize the video recordings of my JVC Everio GZ-MG21

Actually if you just change the .MOD endings to a .MPG it should work just try it on a file you have copied but keep the original intact. I also had the same problem with the JVC piece of junk I bought. This is what I found out on the net. It works but I don't know if there is and loss in the process

If you plug in the USB cable from the camera to a Windows XP machine, the Everio disk looks like a USB disk drive, and I can copy the files over using Windows Explorer. In order to convert them to MPG files, we are using Cyberlink PowerDirector5 NE Express, since the camera produces TOD files, which need to be converted to MPG. We are using MAGIX as the video editor after the conversion from TOD to MPG.

Free driver for gz-hd3u jvc camcorder

Hello
I've set that problem :
1/ Intall the JVC driver
2/ Import (not Capture) from JVC camera to G5 via the USB cable, you will have ".TOD" clips
3/ Convert ".TOD" to "Quick Time" with "Streamclip" software (free)
And you can edit with FCP
Best regards

Another solution is to make sure you are using the usb cable that came with the camera. For some reason, if I use any other, the computer won't recognize the camera. It's the one with the magnet. In fact, mine has two magnets on it.
