SOURCE: The 6.5 foam ring

This is a very common problem and I don't know why companies still use foam.

The ring is called the "surround" and the problem is known as "surround rot".

There are 3 fixes.

Replace the entire driver. (most expensive)

Recone the driver (tear out the old cone + surround + spider and glue in a new one using the old basket).

Refoam the surround. (replace just the foam surround).

I know of one location in my hometown (Ottawa Ontario, that does re-foaming and people that do this are few and far between).

If you can find someone to refoam it go that route, failing that do a recone. A recone will last just as long as a new driver.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

I have a pair of Goodmans Magnum SL speakers. Crossover capacitors.

The capacitors in my Magnums are 3.3uF and 8uF and don't need replacing as they are the foil type (which essentially last forever) rather than non-polar electrolytics (which fail after about 10 years).

If you found second hand 605s you can swap entire sub speaker. Your other option is check your local yellow pages for a pro audio repair shop that does re-coning. Re-coning is a specialty operation and it's not a procedure for the novice. You can also check online for re-coning services.

Hello,
The foam is molded, you can not remold / repair
If it is a small tear you can repair with a bit of rubber cement. Eventuly it will fail and more will tear causing the sub to sound very bad

How do i take midrange speaker out of dash it rattles and dash is split

Hi

You will need to take the dash cover off. Just get a #20 torx and you can do it. The speaker is attached to the underside of the panel.Due to design choices like cheap paper cones and foam surrounds, after a few years of use, midranges don't sound great and almost invariably disintegrate. Then you get awful buzzing and crackling.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
