Go to... http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action Enter the model number that is under the seat. If it's a lawn tractor, it will start with 917. That will get you to all the diagrams of the mower.

lift your seat and look at the label that you got your model number from. to the right of the model number is the serial number. the first six digits of the serial number is the date your tractor was made - for example: serial no. 060802D002756 would make the unit made June 8, 2002

I had the same problem and talked to 3 different techs. The only solution they would come up with is to replace the carb. I didnt believe this was the problem. If you have a fuel solenoid on the bottom of the float bowl remove it and just put in a float bowl plug that threads in. I just taped up the solenoid connector. It runs better than it ever did. I believe the solenoid gets hot and starts shutting off the fuel. I used a plug from a spare set of 1977 yamaha motorcycle carbs I had sitting around.Go figure. Hope this works

Make sure you did not over fill engine oil, it can not go above top of cross hatch on dipstick, also you must use SAE30 oil for summer if not avalible you can use 10W 30. check oil on dipstick if above top of full mark then drain oil to just below top of full mark then try to start engine, if it starts problem solved if not then try to turn engine by hand in clockwise rotation looking from front/flywheel side of engine, if no movement then turn counter clockwise, if flywheel/crankshaft does not turn but notice very little movement from flywheel/crankshaft then jack front of tractor apprximately two feet, remove spark plug and spray PB rust buster (avalible at any autoparts store) into cylinder and try to fill cylinder as much as possible and let PB rust buster soak for 2 hours then try to turn engine in reverse direction of rotation (counter clockwise) 4 to 8 turns, then (with spark plug still removed) crank engine with starter and it should turn freely, if not and still seized then you have internal mechanical failure. Engine must be disassembled and inspected. If repair of engine is expensive go to mower shop and check their tractor junk yard for used engine with same model number, the peaple there should be able to help you.
I hope this info helped.
