Shuts off mid cycle, completely dead but can be restarted by restting the controls.

Check your thermal fuse. The fuse is located inside the control panel on or near the main control board. It will be a bullet shaped component mounted with a white plastic clip with two wires leading from it. The fuse should read a short if good. Now...keep in mind, if the fuse blew it is usually for a reason. Replacing it may or may not correct your problem. In some model dishwashers there was a thermal fuse kit that was required to be installed which involved cutting the wires and using a wire splice to connect the new fuse. It seems that there was a design flaw where the gauge wire used in manufacturing would cause the thermal fuse to blow prematurely due the wire overheating. I can't remember if this applies to KitchenAid, but I believe it does. You may inquire about this at your local parts store. I hope this helps you.

We had same problem - took dishwasher out from counter and found it to be unplugged way way in the back 1
SOURCE: Kitchenaide dishwasher latch will not
The dishwasher was not properly leveled on installation. I used a carpenter's level
and trued up the problem. The door now stays closed.
However, the latch design is faulty in that it does not ever feel securely latched and that is true of all the Kitchenaides that I tried in the showrooms.

Looks like power is been lost, 1st ck power at junction under the unit, if ok ck the thermo fuse on the control panel, if it's out, replace it with the fuse kit recomended by Whirlpool on their Service Flash on this unit.
This should be done by a trained Tech.
