I need the fuel mix ratio for a Craftsman 36cc Chainsaw please

The proper fuel oil mixture for your machine is 40 to 1. That is 40 parts gasoline to 1 part oil, or 3.2 oz. of oil per gallon of gas. Be sure to use only 2 cycle oil that is designed to be mixed with gasoline. you can buy premixed at home centers

Oil Mix Ratio:
The following ratios have been recommended for the last 10-15 years.
Dolmar, Echo, Efco, Homelite, Husqvarna, Jonsered, Makita, Oleo-Mac, Red Max, Ryobi, Shindaiwa, Solo, Spear & Jackson, Stihl & Tanaka; all recommend 50:1.
• 1 gallon of premium fuel to 2.6 ounces of quality 2-cycle oil.
• 4 liters of premium fuel to 80 milliliters of quality 2-cycle oil.
McCulloch, Poulan & Wen; recommend 40:1.
• 1 gallon of premium fuel to 3.2 ounces of quality 2-cycle oil.
• 4 liters of premium fuel to 100 milliliters of quality 2-cycle oil.
Chinese chainsaws recommend 25:1.

The best way is to change only one at a time. There are many folks on here that removed everything, then couldn't remember where the lines went. Use original lines, not plastic. Check your work by trying to pump fuel into the primer bulb. Good luck!

Sounds like you need to pull out the spark plug and put some fuel directly into the cylinder to get it fired up.

If you did nothing to the carburetor adjustments, are using a fresh (1.5 months or less) fuel mix with the same oil/fuel ratio, are operating at the same elevation, and the air filter is clean, there is a reason your saw is acting up.

The idle sdrew is usually separated fron the other 2 and probaly not fitted with an EPA limiter. HTH

Fuel/Oil Mixture

1. Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL supplier's recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 8oz/2gal - used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (Stihl 2.6oz/1gal)
2. Most gas in the US of A contains ethanol; not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few months. Anything over 6 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine. HTH

Hi Thomas, you can find bar oil for the chain at just about any hardware store. Just tell them you need chainsaw bar oil. The oil that mixes with the gasoline is called 2- cycle mix. They will have that also. You can find the 2- cycle mix at a lot of gas stations too but a lot of guys caution not to use the 2 - cycle mix that is made for outboard motors. . I mix up a 5 Gallon Fuel can and use it in all of the Equipment for my Customers and for my Landscaping. I like my Fuel/Oil Ratio a Little Heavy, so I use a 40:1 Ratio. The Following was Copied and Pasted here from and MTD E-mail to me when I Asked for the OEMs Suggested Mixture for this Unit. The mixture, as described by the engine manufacturer, is a 50:1 ratio when using the approved types of 2-cycle engine oils.
50:1 ratio is a mix consisting of 2.5 ounces of 2-cycle oil per 1 gallon of gasoline.
The 2-cycle oil used should be approved and have one or more of the following specification titles: NMMA TC-WII, TC-W3, JASO FB, or JASO FC. NOTE: If unsure of the 2-cycle oil specifications, or the oil is not approved, use a 32:1 fuel to oil ratio. This ratio consists of 4 ounces of oil per one gallon of fuel.
NOTE: Always mix 2-cycle fuel oil and fuel in an approved gasoline safe container prior to filling the engine. Make sure to use a separate gas can for this 2-cycle fuel mixture and label it accordingly. Keep in mind that the fuel capacity of these engines normally is less than a gallon, therefore you will have to use this extra oil mixture for multiple fuel fills. Adding a fuel stabilizer will also help to increase the shelf life of fuel.
