The screen started a little while back with a line in the bottom portion of the picture. Now the bottom several inches of the screen are solid black. It shrinks the picture to fit in what is left of the screen which is distorting the picture to some extent. Is this something that is fixable and if so how?
Fault with the main power supply regulator board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

Hi,
Most problems indicated by your description involved the Vertical IC. With your post "tap...pop back up" signifies a loose connection or to be more specific a cold solder. I suspect that no part(s) need top be replaced but would however require re-application of heat with the use of a soldering iron.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.
