The lookup at:

for the model 1070 harvester shows it is a 3 cylinder unit.
What I might recommend is pull off the valve cover and make sure the intake valve is moving up and down as the engine is cranking. (dont get cut up)
It sounds like a pushrod may have fallen out.
good luck.
Joe

Hi, most likely the hydrostatic is over heating. Remove the battery and battery carrier. From here clean any grass and debris from the hydro and cooling fins, also check the cooling fan condition. Under the mower check the idler pulley on the hydro drive belt is travelling freely. Hope this helps, regards Phil.

hello hird... you may have a gummed up carburator. get a can of starter fluid. get a helper. remove the air cleaner. start it up and leave it in neutral while your helper squirts starter fluid into the air intake for a minute. repeat if necessary until it no longer dies in gear.
if after 3 attempts check your mower deck as a frozen pulley wheel can cause this problem also. joe
Check to make sure the bolts are not 'left hand threads' which loosen by turning clockwise.
