Sony 52xbr4 screen flickering

I have a 52 xbr4. Recently, my screen flickers on and off. Screen goes black and the comes in and flickers at different rates. If I press the MENU button on the Sony (not a cable box menu), like you suggested above, the tv does not flash or flicker. When the menu screen goes away, it flickers again. I have tried turning the tv off and back on again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I've unplugged the TV for a while and turn it back on. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have no idea what this. I love the TV... No problems until this. I'd hate to have to get a new one. Can you help?

Fault with the main power supply regulator board. Ubnormal DC voltage output from it. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and precious time.

You know how to reset the tv to its factory setting, I think you are a technician. Second thing you can do is software update. Go to http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=KDL42V4100&LOC=3#div_pos_30 . If it doesn’t work. Replace the Main board (UB board). Part # A-1547-086-A Cost approx $320.

SOURCE: I have 46 inch sony

Hi,

I am afraid I have some bad news for you, I honestly feel bad giving it to you because I know its not what you want to hear. Hopefully if you follow my advice you can get a good outcome here.

I believe there is about a 98% chance you have a bad LCD panel, without physically diagnosing the tv I cannot be 100% sure but I am very sure that you do have a bad LCD panel. The LCD panel, if you don't already know is the actual viewing surface for the television. The reason this is such bad news is that the part cost is over $1200, and labor is around $400 to have one installed. This is most likely more money than it would cost to purchase a new set today.

Now the only thing I can suggest to you is to call Sony and complain. I have seen many people get a positive result by working with sony, especially since the tv is only 3 months out of warranty. What you will need to do is first get a sony authorized service center to come out to your home (you can find one on sony's website) they will need to give you a written estimate with the parts and labor broken down. Once you have that paper you can call Sony and begin working with them to get the repair fully covered. I cannot guarantee you that they will fix it, but I have seen a lot of people call Sony and work their way up the ladder and end up with the repair being fully covered.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Picture has double screen with lines and also flickers. Eventually it goes blank and just has sound.

Sounds like a bad LCD panel, these would give like horizontal lines and double images below.. Sony said it was the TCON board, but that is part of the panel. Call sony cust. service and complain about the issue, they were extending the warranty for such failures as the got a bad batch of LCD panels.. if sony doesn't help it will cost over $1000 so get them to help and they should, they're a good company.

Display flickers on boot. then goes black

Before making any decision on whether it's a hardware failure, please try and boot from a CD or DVD (recovery disc). If it does successfully boot from an external disc - and there is no flickering problem, then the hardware parts are okay. In that case, please go to this link: http://lifehacker.com/5413223/how-to-fix-your-relatives-terrible-computer?skyline=true&s=x for more information on what to do when you can't enter into your operating system and how to fix malwares that might be causing the flickering.
