When turning on computer I get to sign in then a black screen appears and cannot get into windows 8 how can I reboot. Tried unplugging but no good
There can be several reasons why your laptop screen is going black after logging into Windows. To start with the troubleshooting, you can see if you are able to use Safe Mode to boot into your Windows 8. To know how to boot in Safe Mode, you can refer to the following Microsoft link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2809468
If you are able to boot in Safe Mode, you can use "msconfig" to detect the issues that may be preventing your system from performing normally. To get a better understanding about what is msconfig and how to use it, you can refer to the following Microsoft support page:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/using-system-configuration#1TC=windows-8
If following the steps in the above mentioned link does not help, you can refer to the following HP support page for some more troubleshooting options:

Hope this will help you.

ARE YOU USING WINDOWS XP...IF THATS THE OS THEN JUST REPAIR THE OS WITH WINDOWS XP CD BECAUSE WHAT LOOKS IS YOUR MBR (MASTER BOOT RECORD) HAS GONE CURRUPT. AFTER REPAIR THE SYSTEM WILL BOOT NORMALLY AND YOU WILL NOT LOSE ANY DATA.

Hi there, maybe I can help.
As your computer boots hit F8, go to the startup menu and disable "automatic restart on system failure". Boot up and make not of any error messages.
Let me know if this helps
SOURCE: my window vista is not working having a hard time
This is a new problem I have seen with vista. It is similar to the blue screen of death only it is black.
You can try reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling vista. If that does not work you will need to replace your hard drive.

9 times out of 10, the finger points to the power supply.
Replace it and try again - I reckon you'll be good to go!

When you boot the machine in safe mode, it lists a whole load of drivers its loading. What is the last file it gets to before it reboots?
