You might find that it is the gear driving the fuser, these plastic gears get very worn when driving the ceramic fuser gear. Right Rear plate assembly RG5-7580 with the gears that connect the fuser motor to the fuser.

SOURCE: my HP LaserJet 4L printer just makes a grinding sound-won't print

That printer has a gear on the motor that cracks. You can fix it with a new or used motor. Or get a different machine on craigslist. Thank you, Steven 805-520-3003

SOURCE: My HP LaserJet 4L printer just makes a grinding

Common issue with these older 4L printers. The problem is a small plastic gear on the main drive motor has cracked. This is what causes the noise and since the machine is not "running" there is no paper feed and thus the paper jam light. Basically there is no drive to any of the printers components. May be hard to find a replacement motor these days but that is what you would need to fix the printer.

Replace the fuser and the fuser drive gear. When you order the fuser make sure that they include the gear.

HP Laserjet M2727nf Mfp Printer scan to e-mail first page correct but other pages come out with lines

First print a test page out from a computer. If this has lines then its either a dirty drum in the toner cartridge or a bad fuser. IF the test print is fine then you just need to clean the glass over the scanner.

HP Laserjet M2727 is printing black line down left side of page, whether I print or copy. The ink cartridge is HP & fairly new (18% used). Been using regularly & just statred happening today.

The easiest thing to do is put another cartridge into the machine and to see if the problem goes away. Even if you can get a empty cartridge that is still working. If the black line is still down the left side after changing the cartridge the fuserfilm in your fuserunit might have a tear in it in which case you'll have to send it to a repair centre.

HP M2727nf started and stopped printing after just a few pages of a 30-page document. After turning off and back on it would go through the process of coming back up and sometimes print and sometimes not....

Any HP M2727 manufactured before January 1, 2010 is covered by a Service Advisory that provides a free fix for this problem. Check the serial number sticker on the back of the machine, the date of manufacture is on there. If you fit the dates, contact HP directly or any HP authorized service center and they can fix it for you. Be insistent because I have found some repair centers seem unaware that this fix exists.

When scanning multiple pages, first page prints ok but subsequent pages just print lines and greyed characters

When you print to the M2727nf does all the prints come out ok? If they do you might want to get some canned air and blow out the adf assy and clean the scanner glass. If this does not work find the settings on the printer to do a scanner calabration, it will tell you how to do this from the display.
