Low Battery when not

I put in new batteries and after one or two pictures the camera shuts down saying "low batteries" which they are not.

  • Anonymous Aug 11, 2008

When I put new batteries in and take about 10 pics it show low battery, I also have a clock flashing at the top right of my screen and it shows a type of lighting bolt arrow.

Please advise urgently as I am going on holiday and find this very annoying.

    Great camera otherwise.

    Thank you for your assistance

First make sure you are using either brand new or fully charged re-chargeable batteries. If there the issue persists, there was a firmware update for the camera to resolve an issue similar to this, and you may need to get the update. To check what version you have, do the following:

-turn the camera off
-turn the top dial to SETUP
-turn the camera on while holding down the MENU button

A splash screen will display and it was say 'E3100 v1.X' in the bottom right side of the screen. If it says v1.1 or v1.2, you will need to upgrade the firmware. For instructions on doing this, please see:

If it says v1.3, then you already have the update and your camera may need to be repaired. For repair information, please see:

I got this from Nikon Tech support and it worked.

If you are using alkalines, this will always happen. You need to use rechargeables, or special high current disposables, eg "Oxyride".

A good solution for this camera is to use a single CRV-3 disposable lithium batteries. The battery life is long and they are light weight too.

Low Battery Light Even with Brand New Lithium Batteries

If indeed the batteries are brand new and without a doubt charged,
then you definitely have a hardware problem in the camera.

You're probably going to have to give it in to be serviced.

Hope I helped!

Camera says batteries are low but batteries are new

Try cleaning the battery contacts in the camera with a pencil eraser. If there is any sign of corrosion on the contacts, take a q-tip, dip it in white vinegar and clean the contacts....

Replace battery sign in New canon A590si camera.

You're using the wrong batteries. You need to purchase lithium batteries. They are quality batteries for high powered, battery operated electronics. Personally, I have a battery charger and use rechargable duracell batteries. (HR6/ DC1500/ NiMH/ 1,2V) Gives you approximately 16 hrs before having to recharge.

Camera shutting off indicating low battery

I had the same problem, apparently if you're using a external memory card that can cause this problem...

I didn't know that but I contacted Samsung and got mine repaired.

They put a note in saying the power board was faulty in the camera.

Much, much better now. I can take pictures like I used to be able to!
