The display lights up with names, but some letters not clearly displayed. Otherwise the phone works well and can still be used. I have changed the rechargeable batteries for new ones too but that didn't help the display. I have dropped the phone before so I maybe that probably affected the display. I don't think stores sell Philips phones anymore in North America so I cant even easily replace it.
As indicated in previous posts, cordless phones often have LCD problems due to being in the charger housing too long. Remove the phone from charger when fully charged. Next time feel how the phone heats up after leaving the phone in charger for too long. it will be more cost effective to buy new handset as replacing the LCD.
hope this helps
enjoy:)

go into call lists (centre button up then call lists) and delete the calls in there this will solve the problem

You might have what is called "memory'. If you continue to replace the phone on it's charger after each call the battery will "think" it's empty, giving you s short charge time. Next time you replace the batteries (rechargeable) FULLY charge them then leave the phone off the charger until you go to bed at night.

i had the very same problem worked fine for 18 months then wouldn't register ...it was due to base unit overheating and phillips said it was an unrepairable fault and i should throw it in the bin.
