Did you fully charge both batteries before using them the first time? If not then they may not be able to hold a charge. It sounds to me like the batteries are either dead or defective as obviously the saw now doesn't have the juice to cut the board. If it's still under warranty take it back and get a replacement. Also, how powerful are the batteries? Even an 18V saw will struggle sometimes cutting a 2x4, they just don't have that much power. The plywood is easier to cut obviously.
I always where possible dismantle new and sometimes older small power tools with gear boxes and replace or add to the grease with Molybdenum disulfide grease which reduces the friction a surprisingly large amount therefore increasing the available power at the tool tip and extending the life of the tool by a insignificant amount . It is particularly noticeable in my Bosch jig saw.
You are ok with what you got. The cordless saws take a lot of power to cut wood so it drains the battery fast. I have the ridged setup and my battery on a full charge only gets 4 cuts on a 2x4 befor it is dead. The saws will not give you any worning becauase the teath of the blade will get stuck in the wood so it just will not slow down like the drill will. I hope this helps with your ?
