Auto focus wont focus or take pic

Your auto-focus is not working. Inside the camera is a motor that adjusts the lens to focus on an object automatically. It is currently stuck to "close" or near focus. However, it doesn't go far focus. Check the focus functions of you camera - try to use manual focus.

the focus is probley not focused and the camera has a program to prevent u taking pics when its not focused or is focusing at the time u press the button.
( and its a stupid concept) or if u been taking many pics within a short time like a pic every 2 secs ur memory card speed may not be able to keep up with the pics being downloaded to it. temporaily making it so the camera will not take pics untill the others are on the card.

make sure u partaly press down the picture button so the camera will go into auto focus mode. when it beeps ( most cameras beep) u can take the shot.

it won't take the picture until the focus is not confirmed (big dot lights up in the lower right side of the viewfinder) even though the button is pressed all the way down.
tamron lenses are notorious for slow (noisy) auto focus, so you have to be patient when focusing and half press repeatedly several times before it locks down, confirmes the focus and takes the picture.

Is the lens going in and out like it cant focus?

in live view.. press the ael button to get focus, then you should be able to get clarity in pics

I was focusing to close to the subject & too much glare from a church window.

You can adjust the number of focus areas so that it will not try to compensate for many objects in the pic at 1 time

Pictures get blurred because of several reasons:

Low shutter speed - occurs in low lightning conditions.
Auto focus not focused - occurs when pressing the shutter button all the way without waiting for the auto focus ready signal (green box)

To speed up the shutter do the following:
In Camera menu-Quality- Set ISO 100 for outdoor, ISO 400 indoor.

To avert focus problems, set camera menu-Rec- Focus-Infinity, Rec-Quick shutter-On
