Check the governor spring and throttle linkages, something may have come adrift. Also check the throttle shaft and body for wear and excessive clearance which could **** in excessive air, upsetting the mixture.
Most likely problem is dirt?moisture in the carburetor float bowl. You would have to remove the bowl, clean it out and also clean the main jet up in the center of the carburetor. Another problem could be that the governor is out of adjustment but this is not something a novice could or should do
You can download a manual for the engine from Briggs & Stratton's web site - you just need the numbers off the blower shroud. No manual exists for the actual mower.
