That is the engine default code. It has to do with the regulator not getting enough water to cool it down. Those are water cooled regulators not air cooled like cars. The impellers for the cooling system should be replaced about every 3-4 years. It may still cool the motor but not enough to cool the regulator which supplies the computer to set the trouble codes.
To begin with, if the cooling system is tight ( no leaks ), the cooling system will "self-bleed" by starting the motor, and turning on the heat so that the coolant will circulate through the engine and through the heater.
The water pump will keep the coolant moving , and the trapped air will rise to the coolant tank.
The engine will need to be running for at least 10 minutes to get
all the air to come to the recovery tank.
During this process, the recovery tank must also be kept full.

is it cooling ok ? run on hose and check engine block and exhaust plate cool ! water inlets clear and impellor good condition ? compressions all over 100psi ? carbs clean ?
yes go to a dealer parts guy and ask him to print you out the illustrated parts breakdown of the cooling system. he will do it for nothing and then you will know the name, part number, and cost at a dealer. if it is an oddball part you will be stuck buying it, probably ordering it, from a ford or mercury dealer. there is also a HELP area with different size Ts at most parts stores, you can often rig something up yourself with some of those parts and some hose as opposed to waiting for years on a special order
You have air trapped in the engine and heater system. very common on today's engines. You can try burping it yourself, or go to a shop that can flus your cooling system for $60 and refill using a vacuum system that purges all air by sucking it out. Then you have to keep reservoir full to keep it from sucking air back in. Temp gauge should read on the "A" in normal on the gage.

How hot does the engine get in degrees F ? Some radiator fans won't turn on till about 220 degrees F ? Knowing the actual temp would help.
Is your coolant boiling over or anything? Sometimes when cooling system is opened, it might get air in the system?
