Same problem after downloading update have only flashing cross. This is the second time it has been back for repair because it happened the first time I connected it. Tomtom sent instructions to reset and update from computer now says I need to delete 6.1mb to do this, but I only have a folder showing on the device of 'statdata 1 byte disallowstrip.dat' and they have told me not to delete any folders only loose files.

I found this.

Question: Device shows a flashing cross when turned on.

Answer:

If your device only shows a cross after you turn it on, the TomTom application is not installed or cannot be found.

To solve this, follow the steps below.

Manually remove the TomTom application:
Reset your device.

Connect your device to your computer.

Turn on your device by pressing the power button for 5 seconds.

Do one of the following:
Windows: Click Start > My Computer and then double-click the Removable Disk for your TomTom device.
Macintosh: Double-click the desktop icon for your TomTom device.

Delete all files except the following:
Do not delete any of the folders!
Do not delete the files antitheftw.bmp, lowbatteryw.bmp and splashw.bmp (if present)!

Reinstall the TomTom application:
Start TomTom HOME

Select an option:
I previously updated my device on this computer
I never updated my device on this computer

Click Done and then click Device > Disconnect Device.
Your device should now start up again. If it hasn't started up after 10 seconds, press the On/off button.

Red cross flashing on screen

This means the application has not loaded or it has an issue with the application. Download the full instructions from tomtom website to reinstall you tomtom with fresh application and program etc. YOU MUST back up your device first and ensure you have a copya of the map as you cannot download this. make a backup first and use tomtom home program to install the new application, copy your map back to the device etc. the instructions from tomtom are pretty straightforward to follow. Also contacting tomtom support will get you help in reinstalling the application.

Tomtom sav nav 910 wont turn on even after pushing reset button with paper clip as recomended. It is fully charged. Any other suggestions

Hallo! Try this: press reset +poiwer on for 20 secs, release reset but keep pressing power 20 secs, it should power the light on, very fast to connect to computer in this time, because it stais on 10 secs, open it like a map, backup ALL data in a new map, format the device, connect to TomTom Home, make the upgrades, copy the maps Maps and Voices back to your GPS.

I have just bought a tomtom sd card of western europe overwritten with tomtom map of new Zealand.when inserted the tomtom520T just gets stuck on a tomtom picture page and nothing works ,any ideas,regards...

Assuming the maps have been registered for your device.........try resetting the device.
If the maps are not registered, it may eventually boot up, but you'll get a message saying that the maps are not authorised for this device.

Screen deactivated & a red circle with an 'X' flashing

First turn your firewall off (if you have one). You need to go into your 720 with the TomTom Home software and erase the downloaded software (with the remove items from my device) and reset the device (little reset button under the unit keep it pressed for 5 seconds), place it back in the cradle and restart your computer and than restart the 720 , bring the TomTom Home program up, and when the TomTom Home software in your computer restarts and detects the 720 it will tell you that you need to update the application, if it doesn't than you force the update by going to the add maps option, select items on my computer, select applications and press the add button, when done, go back and to device (option in top of your screen) and select disconnect device, restart your 720 and it should be back to life with the upgraded software.

Restarts unexpectedly and slow to start

The TomTom 520 and 720 are the same unit. the differance is the maps. The 520 has maps of the US and the 720 has maps of Europe. Download the free clearflash utility from TomTom and run it a couple of times. This should clear up your problem. Sometimes the mapset config in the map gets full and it has to be cleared.

Cant use usa/canada map on tom tom 130 right out of the box

You have the option of unchecking items you don't want installed and updated every time you connect to TomTom Home. Reset the entire unit and update again to fix the error

Setting country on tomtom one

This TomTom comes loaded with 2 maps....Guam and the US with Canada. I too got stuck in Guam and it is not obvious how to get out of it. But here it is.
Go to Main Menu, then Change Preferences
Hit forward arrow twice
Go to Manage Maps
Hit forward arrow once and choose Switch Map
It should show you Guam and the US and Canada
Tap US and Canada and it should take you out of Guam!!
Mine did and I am now going to delete the Guam map.

Hi, I am back, just got the problem solved, I called their tech support at no charge (866-486-6866, Glen) , really good service.
