Start by removing the bobbin, and rewinding the thread. Then check for burrs or roughness on the bobbin and bobbin case. Finally, ensure that the position finger for the bobbin case correctly enters the notch in the positioning plate(attached to the underside of the throat plate). If none of that works, you may have a bent center stud. Better take it in to the repair shop.

The top of the machine is not threaded correctly. First raise the presserfot then rethread the machine. Bottom looping is usually caused by a lack of top tension. There could allso be a bur on the hook.
SOURCE: Upper thread wraps around bobbin mechanism, while sewing
IT PROBABLY IS THREADED INCORRECTLY. GO SLOWLY BY THE DIAPHRAGM AND MAKE SURE IT IS THREADED CORRECTLY. ALSO MAKE SURE SPOOL PIN HOLDERS ARE IN PLACE THAT HELPS TO GUIDE THE THREAD CORRECTLY.
SOURCE: can't tighten clutch on Kenmore zig zag sewing machine.
The clutch has fallen off the shaft. Remove the very small screw in the clutch release screw to remove the clutch release. Place the clutch(round thing with ears on it) back on the shaft with the center ears pointing towards the outside. Put the clutch release screw back on. Tighten it to make sure it works
properly. Put the small screw back in the clutch release screw and test it again. If it will not tighten or release properly, remove the clutch ,rotate it180 degrees and try it again. This should solve your problem.

have you checked to see if the needle is bent-lay the needle on a flat surface & roll the needle over,, if the needle does not roll good -replace
blunt needle-if the needle makes a popping sound when the needle penetrates the fabric,,the needle is blunt-replace
sometimes if the thread comes off the thread take-up lever it can jam the thread in the bobbin area
try rethreading the machine
check to make sure the thread isn't wrapping around the spool pin
check the spool of thread to see if the notch on the spool is catching the top thread
check to see if there's a burr on the bobbin case
I hope one of these suggestions helps you

SOURCE: Sears Kenmore Sewing Machine Model 385. 1254180 Bobbin Won't Wind
The winding sound is the rubber O-ring against the spinning pulley (back
of hand wheel) - do not let this continue, it will wear out the O-ring.
I had the same problem and I found the shaft bushing of the winder dry and needed lubed. Use oil or spray lithium grease and it should work fine. Spin the bobbin shaft by hand (not the hand wheel) to get it freed up after oiling.
You can oil from the top and should take off the side case to clean the excess oil from the O-ring. The shaft bushing is a tight fit and any dry oil will get sticky and prevent winding.
