Unplug pc, hold power button in for a few seconds, open case, remove cmos battery ( looks like a watch battery) put battery back, start pc. If that does not work then unplug all hardware (cd drives) and try again to see if maybe it is a drive. If nothing works then its a good chance that your motherboard is bad.

SOURCE: gateway dx 4820 power up problem

Let's start with some of the basics.

1) Since you were checking connections on the motherboard, was the power unplugged from the computer, AND did you follow Anti-Static precautions?

[Anti-Static Precautions:

Your body carries Static electricity.
Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit), the hardware components inside a computer.

You may not even see it, or feel it.

Computer unplugged from power, computer case open, computer on a table.
TOUCH the metal frame of the open computer case to relieve your body of Static.

Should you get up in the middle of working on your computer, and leave, upon your return Touch the metal frame again.
Or use an ESD wrist strap, and connect the alligator clip to the metal frame ]

2) Computer unplugged from power, anti-static precautions followed, remove all ram memory modules, and reinsert them. In fact, it would behoove you to clean the contact pins on the bottom of the ram memory modules, before reinserting them.

Clean with a pencil eraser. Remove the eraser dust, with air pressure from a can of compressed air for computers, or air pressure from your mouth may be sufficient.

You may have bumped the ram memory modules.
Even if they look to be seated, it only takes a few minutes to remove, and reinstall.

After time, corrosion can develop on the gold plated contact pins, at the bottom of the ram memory modules. Doesn't take long to clean them with a pencil eraser.

Handle the ram memory module by the body. The body, is coated with a clear see-through protective plastic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Generic_DDR_Memory_%28Xytram%29.jpg

The above link, is only provided for an illustration of the gold plated contact pins, I am referring to.

It is DDR Sdram ram memory, and has 184 contact pins. 92 on each side.

Your computer uses DDR3 Sdram ram memory.
Has 240 contact pins. 120 on each side, and the Locating Notch is in a different place.

3) Are you sure the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable, is plugged in tightly to the motherboard?

This is power for your Processor.

http://support.gateway.com/s/desktop/2009/gateway/dx/dx4820/DX4820nv.shtml

SATA power cable is plugged in tightly to your SATA harddrive?

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#sata

If your SATA harddrive has provisions for plugging in a SATA power cable, and a 4-pin Peripheral power cable, BE SURE that only the SATA power cable is plugged in.

Plugging both in will fry out the harddrive. Maybe not right away, but will down the road.

Gateway DX-4380 won't start, but fans spin

The power supply (first things that needs to respond to a press of the power button) is obviously working, because the fans have power. May be a harddrive crash.

DX4300-05 How to open Gateway panels

1) Jaws of Life.

2) Acetylene torch

OH, I'M JUST KIDDIN'!

Gateway Support > DX4300 series of Desktop PC > Main Support page,

Looking at the Front of the computer, is how you determine Right side, and Left side.
The Right side removes with two screws, as far as I can see.

The Left side is a little harder to tell.

Gateway Support is of no help on this one. At least that I have found. Not in User Manual, because it's generic. One size fit's all.

However looking at the Rear View, it looks like the usual style to me.
Hard to make out though, because it's painted Black.

ON the back edge of the Left Side Panel, appears to be a Thumbscrew.
Even with centerline of Power Supply fan.

But there also appears to be a type of flip lock.
Or should state; push over to the inside; a little.

Then using the Fingerpull molded handle on the Left Side Panel, pull the side panel back.

Usually there are Slots in the metal frame, of the computer case.
The side panel has Tabs that stick out, with hooked end.
Along the top, and/or along the bottom.

You pull the side panel back until it stops, then move back forward about an inch, or so. Then bring the side panel straight out.

No?
Then post back what you see, and we'll try to figure it out together.

Gateway dx 4320 wont turn on

It could be a few things:

a faulty power switch - you say that you've changed the PSU, but did that include the switch?

it could also be a Faulty Motherboard or CPU. If either of them are fried, you won't see anything come on either.

I'd suggest checking the switch first because that's the cheapest and easiest to replace

It is normal for a Gateway ML6732 that the fan starts when turn on the laptop and then stops the fan couple seconds after that? My laptop gets freeze all the time seconds after.

Hi,

That is normal for when the laptop starts up. That is also a good indication that the fan is working ok. If the fan loud and noisy all the time then there is a build up of dust in the machine and it needs cleaning out,

Desktop will not boot at all. Turn it on and it will begin once and quit. Second attempt it begins to run ( fans ) at what seems half speed. Occasionaly it will start with fans at full speed. It will not...

Sounds like memory to me, if it has more than 1 stick of memory try using just 1 at a time to eliminate the faulty 1. If theres only 1 stick try replacing it. Cheers from Scott and plz vote

Gateway 7330gz will only run few seconds then turn off

Remove the battery and run off of the A/C power adapter without the battery installed.

If it works, the battery is just discharged too much. After Windows settles, insert the battery and let it charge.
