SOURCE: I have a troy bilt 42 inch 17 hp lawn tractor. The

One or more of your drive belts is in need of adjustment or replacement, maybe. Possibly, your electric (or manual) PTO clutch could also be adjusted. You do have the spring tensioner on the deck engaged, right? You say the engine doesn't bog when this happens so I am inclined to think "clutch" and/or "PTO belt" to the deck and/or the "deck tensioner" are the things to check.

The tensioner will be the easiest, it is a handle on the left side ON the deck. Has a BIG spring on it. Make sure it is engaged.

Is yours a Troy Bilt manufactured in Troy New York or is it another manufacturer (MTD?). Troy Bilt is actually out of business, having sold the Troy name to a variety of makers depending on the model line. I don't have the run down on who makes what any more (tillers, chippers, mowers, blowers, trimmers, etc.), but Troy Bilt of Troy, NY is no more. :-(

I have a 16 HP Troy with 42 inch deck driven through a electric clutch. I also have a "grass pump" on my deck. Important maintenance tips: Keep the bearings greased, keep the deck clean underneath. The belt on the deck should have the tensioner released when you are NOT mowing. Keep the blades sharp and in good repair. Mow with engine at full speed. When you get to areas of heavy growth, slow the tractor down (hydro drive) or reduce to a lower gear (gear drive). NEVER adjust speed using the "clutch" (hydro drive or gear drive). When you engage the blades (electric or manual) always have the engine just above idle, bring the engine speed up slowly to preserve the belts and reduce stress on all components.

I am sure this is the fix for your trouble. If there is anything else or if I missed the ball, please let me know and we will go further.

Mower is electric. cord is fine. was mowing great, had it on highest blade level due to high grass. just quit completely. blade and chute are not clogged. there is power to mower.

If you were cutting long grass it sounds like you may have burnt the motor out. It may have over heated. they are not made to cut long grass. You don't say whether the motor runs but not the blades if this is the case you may have sheared the shear pin in the blade assembly.

Mower is not shooting the grass out when using the mulcher. I have to clean the grass out when cutting the grass.

Maybe the grass you are trying to MUCLH is a little too high. Mulching doesn;t really cause the machine to "shoot" out the grass the way conventional cutting with a conventional blade does....it is the type of blade that when spinning, creates air pockets under the deck that allow the blades to keep cutting the grass over and over. Switch to a different blade to get it to shoot out.

Hi...I have a 2005 Cub Cadet 2042. With the switch in ''normal'' and the PTO engaged, when going forward cutting the grass the PTO will disengage for no apparent reason. You have to push the PTO knob in...

In the cub cadet, the PTO power is maintained via a latching circuit that includes a reverse switch and a reverse relay. Locate the reverse switch that senses whether the tractor is in reverse -- either it's come loose, become misadjusted, or it's failed, or the wiring and connections are loose. You could bypass the switch to confirm this as the problem.

I have a Kraftsman 91.5 42 inch cut model #

Safety switch at seat or reverse. Mower will cut of when blades are engaged if you get off the seat or put into reverse. Check these switches for stuck on, damaged, disconnected, or just plain broke. Good luck.
