Picture not as sharp as it should be

I just bought a 46" Sony Bravia. I am new to the world of HD so I need some help. What do I need to do to get the picture to be really sharp like they are in the store when on display? Is it all in the channel or show you are watching? Do I need to play with the setting on the TV? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You would need a High Definition cable package. I for instance have Comcast cable with the premium package and High Definition cable box. Also as far as watching DVD's and getting the best picture would be an HDMI cable from player to set. Hope it helps!

I just bought the tv, hooked it up to my new cable box using HDMI cable. i get some picture and sound on some channels but no HD channels at all

Try to go under the setting with the cable box and see if it has a switch to choose HD channels first. What cable companie do you have?? It could be possible that you will need to call to get HD service.

Sometimes the HD channels tend to be be late in the programming guide(I have comcast of Virginia and most channels are 700+)

send me a message in the comments and I can help further

Hope I could help!

On Sony Bravia KDL-S40A12U screen occasionally turns black for a couple of seconds. Only happens on the HDMI channel. Sound still works, but no picture?

Possibly source issue(Box/Satt). Some HD boxes do not have very good HDMI processors or the actual program source feed may be faulty. HD sources are still not 100% efficient

Picture freezes on Sony Bravia 46 in

this can be a weak signal check the connections on cables. also in hot weather you can get a build up of static electricity and it will need to be discharged, turn off tv at mains and cross the connector and the cables if you have a buster or other box connected to them turn off and do the same to them. use something metal but make sure there is no power to them.

How to improve picture quality sharpness?

PICTURE QUALITY IS USUALLY A FUNTION OF IT'S SOURCE. GARBAGE IN GARBAGE OUT.
IF YOU HAVE COMCAST OR SATELLITE AND IT IS NOT HD, YOU NEED TO HAVE AN HD SIGNAL FOR THE BEST PICTURE. THE BEST INPUT IS THRU THE HDMI INPUT. IF YOUR UNIT HAS A GOOD PICTURE WITH YOUR DVD UNIT, THEN THE HAVE A SIGNAL SOURCE ISSUE.
