I have a Coleman digital watch. Four button. I replaced the battery and need to reset the time and date.

All you have to do hold the "reset" button for about 10 secs. Then one-by-one the time, date, and seconds will and use the "ST/STP" button to change it. Then, you have everything set right, hit the "reset" button and that will finalize it.

I found and pressed the reset button with a tiny screw driver. After about 10 attempts, I pressed the function side button and found that date and time displayed temporarily while holding button down.

Finally after more reset attempts, the time did display.

The watch has four buttons. The lower left button is labeled MODE on the face of the watch. There are four modes and pressing the MODE button will step through each mode until you return to the mode at the start of the process. Start at the "Normal" timekeeping mode and press the "MODE" button three times until the digital display rightmost two figures for seconds flash.
Press the lower right button labeled RESET until the item you want to change is flashing. Pressing RESET cycles through seconds, minutes, hours, day, month, day of the week in the top sub-dial and then back to seconds again.
When the item you want to change is flashing press the top right button labeled START to step the displayed item to the value you want. When you are satisfied all the settings are correct, press the lower left button marked MODE to return to normal operation.

NO, don't open the back cover you will break the water seal.

Reset the wrist unit. Resetting clears the date and time settings.
Press all buttons except the Light button at the same time until the display is filled with digits. Press OK.

If this does not work, have the batteries checked.

Remove the four screws that hold the battery cover on the back of the watch. Remove the 3 very small screws that hold the battery in place. Remove the battery from the battery holder. The piece that the 3 small screws were removed from seperates from the 3 volt 2016 energizer battery. Replace the battery with a new one. Re-install the battery holder to the watch. There is a small tab on the lower left part of the battery holder that needs to be depressed to activate the watch. Depress it and look at the face of the watch to make sure it is activated. The watch will need to have the time, date etc reset but you should now be able to see that the battery is working. Replace the battery cover and reset the time and date as needed.

Digital watches all work from a memory chip on the movement. The most common problem is the memory is filled or corrupted when you cannot seem to re-set them. In most styles, pressing and holding all the set buttons in at the same time for three or four seconds can fix this error. The dial will clear and the time and alarms must then be reset. If not you may need to have a watch technician use the AC button inside the case on the movement. He will need to use a metal tweezers and touch the + side of the battery to the AC contact point on the movement.

sounds like the contact inside for the ligt button is stuck on. Remove the back again and take a look at the contact under the light button to see if it is stuck, if so, GENTLY pry it out a bit so it's not touching all the time...
