Don't know about your particular model, but maybe left is the normal "resting" position. When on zigzag it will move to the right then back to the left. As long as all of your different stitch patterns keep the needle between the limits of the hole above the shuttle and does not hit the machine bed then I would best guess everything is fine.
Hope that is of some help.
Most sergers have a color guide. On my serger, the curved needle is threaded first, then the other bottom needle, then the top needle(s). The bottom horizontal needle is a trick, as you either need a special threader, or have to be very creative at getting it hooked on the left side (move the needle to the left side, first), then move the needle to the right and with the thread in the groove, thread the eye of the needle. Now, thread the top needles.

In the upper portion of the machine, there is usually a cam mechanism that moves the needle side/side during a zig-zag stitch. It's possible that a pin or something has fallen into the machine & is preventing the needle-arm from moving properly.
There are usually only a few screws that hold the upper housing cover in place. Open it up and check the needle arm movement from there. Chances are, the problem will reveal itself thru a close inspection of the moving parts involved.
I don't have that machine but my needle moves when I touch the needle sign and use the + or - to move the needle to the left or right. Presser foot and needle must both be up.
Sounds like the needle bar alignment is broken. When you turn on the machine, does the needle move from left to right and then goes to center? This is called calibrating to center. I suspect it doesn't. Best recommendation is to take to local authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer for service or have them send to Husqvarna Viking (SVP) Service Technical Department for repair.
