What is wrong with the aircondition,when you start the car the compressor woks fine for aminute then shuts off

Is it tripping the breaker? If it is the compressor could be on the way out. Unless you have the tools you will need an AC rep are man. The heat and AC are two separate functions not related very much. When the compressor starts to go it works harder over heats draws more electricity and trips the breaker.

Hello: Check and make sure the air mix door is in the A/C position, air mix door is sometimes called the blend door. If it is a manual system follow the cable that is connected to the lever that goes from red (hot) to blue (cold) see if it moves the door when you move the lever on the control.

You may have a leak in the system!! Have it pressure tested!! The compressor is sensing either there isn't enough or too much freon within the system and is in protection mode.

You will need to buy the no a/c belt most likely. Check the diagram in the engine compartment.

What year is this car? I mean, i havent seen a 2005 Peugeot anywhere but in Europe. The pinging and overheating smell could be your ac compressor? try running car w/o ac if no problems there...u need a new ac compressor

I would check the air gap on the drive to driven plate of the ac compressor clutch, it should be no more than 0.30 thousanths of an inch, if it is excessive you can have this problem, check it with a hot engine, if it is excessive you can adjust it with a special shim kit from the dealer.

It may be the alternator... not a very expensive part to replace your self, about $150.

You have to measure the oil in the old compressor and then add a small amount, usually about 2 oz's this is for a system that has been run, the oil circulates with the refrigerant, so oil is in every component, you really need to consult a factory service manual to come up with the proper amount, it is based on which components you are replacing. Bottom line is what ever you drain out is what goes back in + a small amount, if you get it wrong you can end up with a frozen up compressor or a system that does not cool correctly.

This problem generally occurs due to the following reasons. I've included the solution too.

1.Windows and air vent wings maybe open .Close windows and vent wings
2.The compressor belt is slipping. Try to Tighten or replace compressor belt
3.Heater is on. Shut heater off
4..Condenser is clogged with debris. Clean the condenser .
5.Refrigerant has escaped through a leak in the system. Have system checked .
6.Receiver/drier is plugged. Have system serviced.
