Make sure you push the shackle down firmly to clear the lock and try the combo again. It is possible to open it by trial and error, but not easy. I have removed the security screws and repaired one, but it was tricky to reassemble. The problem with mine was a spring that slipped out of position and the lock wouldn't reset correctly. There are a lot of parts inside, so chances of getting it to work correctly are not good unless you're really good with complex mechanisms and puzzles.
Try lock lubricant. Spray it sown around the shackle on both sides, and around the dial. Push the shackle into the lock body to unload the mechanism, then try to turn the dial again - if your hasp has the shackle under tension, it may drag the mechanism and keep it from unlatching.
It happened to so many people. As people use to try it on their own and the problem occurs. I think you did not read or follow the manual guide carefully. But now you must call the locksmith guy to fix it. If you live in San Francisco then you can call Locksmith in San Francisco, as they are professionals and can help you out better.
Try 2 options: 1. just squeeze the shackle twice and pull it out. This is in case you forgot to enter new combination. 2, Make the 2 combination together, the old and the new as one sequence. This in case you forgot to squeeze the shackle before enter new combination
Make your dumb friends find the code or buy you a new lock.
there is not trick to it... it'll have to be done by trial and error...
Sorry for your troubles.
