SOURCE: computer not recognizing mp3 sansa clip

Comment by vickisanchez, posted on Mar 19, 2008 IT FINALLY WORKS !!!!

Sandisk Tech support had me do the following:

- Turn it OFF
- Put it in the HOLD position
- HOLD the center button IN while plugging into USB port, continue to hold for 5 to 7 sec even after plugged in.
At this point MY COMPUTER recognized it. And it worked.

He also had me to:

- go to WWW.MICROSOFT.COM
- In the upper right hand search bar, type in MTP PORTING KIT
I did this and downloaded the first one. Now my Sansa Clip work perfect. I wish I would have talked to him last week before I returned the last one, for the same reasons.

If this does not help call the 1-800 # , opt #4, and ask for GUY (yes that is really his name) out of 5 or so calls to Tech Support he is the only one who knew what he was doing, and how to actually HELP.
GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: I left my Sansa Clip MP3 Player plugged.

    Complete Reset of Sansa Clip
  1. Step 1 Turn Sansa Clip on. Press the "Menu" (Home) button on the Sansa Clip.
  2. Step 2 Press the bottom of the scroll wheel until you reach the "Settings" screen. Push the center button to choose "Settings."
  3. Step 3 Scroll down to "Reset All," and select. You will be asked to confirm the reset. Select "Yes." This option will simply allow you to reset the language and location settings on your Sansa Clip. It will not erase data from the clip. To do a complete factory restore, follow steps 4 and 5.
  4. Step 4 In the "Settings" menu, scroll down until you reach "Format" and then select. You will be asked to confirm if you wish to format. Select "Yes."
  5. Step 5 Wait for the screen to say "Formatting Complete." You have now cleared all the files from your Sansa Clip and reset it to factory settings.
  6. Resetting a Frozen Sansa Clip
  7. Step 1 Unfreeze a frozen Sansa Clip by pushing the power button up and holding it for 20 seconds. Release it, and then turn it on again.
  8. Step 2 Go to the Sansa website and download the "Sansa Firmware Updater."
  9. Step 3 Select "Run" when the updater installs. (Installation will take less than two minutes.)
  10. Step 4 Wait for the Sansa Firmware Updater to run through its system test. It will ask you to connect the Sansa Clip to the computer to update your Sansa's software.
  11. Step 5 Connect the Sansa Clip and then remove it from the computer when instructed. If this process does not unfreeze your Sansa Clip, contact Sansa support at the Sansa Firmware Updater website.

I have an mp3 player that I purchased while locked up in a Federal prison, I am now at home and want to find out how to remove the security device.

Can you force it to do a "factory reset" ?
This would reset it to a state BEFORE the prison's I.T. team installed any software.

How do i reactivate my mp3 player i got from the west virginia prison in morgantown?

I'm not sure what you mean by reactivate.
To reset player because it's frozen or you're multibooting, or some other issues you can hold down the left button (back button, reverse button) and the on button at the same time, hold for at least 30 seconds and it'll reset the player. If that doesn't work it might be something else like a broken start button or problems inside the unit.

Hope that helps.
