Check the sticker on the back of the tv. Sometimes you can also find it in the menu but rarely on old models.
sounds like the inverter went bad...There's a high voltage device in there that runs the whole "picture" thing. There are capacitors involved with it that have probably failed leading to this mess.. That would be what that "crack" is...If you try to turn it back on does it just "click " and then stay off?
