How do you fix the trimmer shaft if it won't spin?

The motor works but the shaft attachment won't spin. The rod in the shaft is loose. It is a troy bilt gas trimmer. Is the shaft worth repairing?

Most likely the cable that runs through the shaft is broken or rounded off . My experience has been the the replacement part is almost as much to buy as a new attachment.

Drive shafts are usually priced at a reasonable level to make it worth the repair time and cost. Be sure to remove the entire shaft to see if it broke into two pieces. If not, closely inspect the ends and both of the 'sockets' that it engages. One will be on the gearhead and the other on the powerhead (probably a clutch drum, if equipped with a clutch).

It doesn't happen often, but I have seen drive tubes become loose and slide apart, causing the end of the drive shaft to be ground to the point it rotates within the clutch drum or gearhead.

In really rare cases, the clutch assembly could fail, resulting in no movement of the attachment. I doubt that's your issue, but something else to consider if everything else looks good.

Sorry, I just realized this is an attachment after reading the post again. The idea is the same, inspect the lower drive shaft to see if it broke or if it is worn on the ends (also look at the lower end of the powerhead driveshaft).

SOURCE: where is the gas filter located on a troy bilt trimmer?

The fuel filter is inside the fuel tank. Replace the fuel filter. Do not clean it.

SOURCE: Troy Bilt Trimmer 75SS stalls at full throttle. new gas

Hello. Let me assist you. Since your trimmer runs but stalls at ful throttle it is telling you that there is a fuel problem. Not enough gas is getting through the carbeurator to satisfy the engines needs on full throttle. Most likely the carbeurator is gummed up. A common problem. Let's see if we can un gum it by getting a can or carbeurtor cleaner. Go to any auto parts store and talk to the clerk about your need.

SOURCE: Troy-Bilt TB70SS will not start

Hi. Go to any auto parts store and get a can of starter fluid. Have a helper squirt a little into the air cleaner while u start it up. Then continue to squirt the starter fluid to keep it running until the engine sounds good again. J.

Engine is working but the head is not spinning

There is a drive shaft that runs the length of the tube from the head to the motor. If the head is not on the tube completely the head will not spin. There should be a screw or two on the shaft by the head you can take loose, once it is loose you can rotate the head and push on to tube further. If you need any more help let me know, Daniel.

I have a Talon electric line trimmer AT2307A. When I press the start button, the bottom attachment with the nylon line does not spin even though the motor is running.

Halfway down the shaft of the line trimmer, you can detach the line trimmer attachment ( this in so you can fit a lawn edger attachment if need be). Unclip the line trimmer at that halfway point and the start the motor and see if that rod inside the shaft is spining, if so, reattach the line trimmer attachment and see if the nylon line spins, if so, it wasnt attached correctly, if not, then there a break in the flexible rod going to the trimmer head, most likely at the bend.

Lost manual for troy bilt weed eater mod#tb514cs 4cycle

I didn't find that exact one either, but recently had to work on my Yard Man 4-Cycle Straight Shaft and used a Troy-Bilt manual for a similar trimmer - worked great.
If you don't find yours at this site, maybe a similar one will work. It looks like the difference is the TB525 receives attachments. If you're trying to fix something right now, here's the manual for that one until you find yours:
