The motor works but the shaft attachment won't spin. The rod in the shaft is loose. It is a troy bilt gas trimmer. Is the shaft worth repairing?
Most likely the cable that runs through the shaft is broken or rounded off . My experience has been the the replacement part is almost as much to buy as a new attachment.
Drive shafts are usually priced at a reasonable level to make it worth the repair time and cost. Be sure to remove the entire shaft to see if it broke into two pieces. If not, closely inspect the ends and both of the 'sockets' that it engages. One will be on the gearhead and the other on the powerhead (probably a clutch drum, if equipped with a clutch).
It doesn't happen often, but I have seen drive tubes become loose and slide apart, causing the end of the drive shaft to be ground to the point it rotates within the clutch drum or gearhead.
In really rare cases, the clutch assembly could fail, resulting in no movement of the attachment. I doubt that's your issue, but something else to consider if everything else looks good.
Simple answer is no if you can do it yourself then yes

The fuel filter is inside the fuel tank. Replace the fuel filter. Do not clean it.

Hello. Let me assist you. Since your trimmer runs but stalls at ful throttle it is telling you that there is a fuel problem. Not enough gas is getting through the carbeurator to satisfy the engines needs on full throttle. Most likely the carbeurator is gummed up. A common problem. Let's see if we can un gum it by getting a can or carbeurtor cleaner. Go to any auto parts store and talk to the clerk about your need.

Hi. Go to any auto parts store and get a can of starter fluid. Have a helper squirt a little into the air cleaner while u start it up. Then continue to squirt the starter fluid to keep it running until the engine sounds good again. J.
