Paper lift mechanism is broken. It's uneconomical to have repaired, sorry.

Check all this ---------
1.check the paper pickup roller may be its not functioning
proper.
2.check the paper pickup sensor(clean this)
3.check the paper pickup tray for proper work.
4.check the gear of paper pickup.

take the roller out again but this time make sure the paper sensor is in the proper place. it does go scew when putting a new roller in. It happened to me last month.

you dont need to get another printer.

HP3390 picks up 3 pieces of paper sequentially for each page and jams just before first page exits

It appears to be known problem and the fix is to replace the pickup roller. The problem as you noticed is that it has dried out.

Does it make a noise as if its doing anything? Most common thing is the pickup roller has worn out, they're really easy to replace, you can just search google or ebay for - pickup roller and whatever the model number of your printer is to find it

I have a Brother HL5240 that the paper pickup roller continually activates causing a paper jam.

you can try to clean the pick up rollers with a piece of cloth with isopropyl alcohol, if that don't work you need to replace the pickup roller , it cost about 20 dollars

The printer is not picking up the paper from the tray. As best as I can tell anyway.

The pickup roller could be dusty (paper dust) Clean the roller with a damp cotton bud, or buy replacement roller if it still will not pickup.

One other thing to check is see if a paper jam has been removed but torn a bit of paper off, this could be stopping the paper feed path

Printer does not attempt to pick up paper but gives out of paper message and or flashing paper sign on panel

steps:
(a) driving a pickup roller, picking up printing paper stacked in a paper cassette, and then, feeding the picked up printing paper to an image forming unit
(b) after picking up the printing paper in step (a), checking to determine whether or not the printing paper has been fed to the image forming unit(c) when it has been determined in step (b) that the printing paper has not been fed and a paper feed error has been generated, again driving the pickup roller, so as to attempt to pick up the printing paper stacked in the paper cassette again.

Does not pick up paper from the tray

How much paper gone throught the printer since it is new?
usually the pickup roller is good for 10,000-15,000 sheets.(20x500 sheet pack). if the printer went throught that much paper, then the pick up roller need to be replaced.
if not, make sure there nothing stucked on the pickup roller, and the roller is not shining (it need to be soft and rough).

I have a hp photosmart 2610 printer when it loads the paper it picks up 3 to4 sheets at atime and it jams I am using 24 lb all purpous paper what is the problem?

after time the pickup roller stop picking the paper due to dust coming from the paper, try cleaning all the pickup parts with isopropyl or some other solvent that will not attack plastic
