Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series Switches Products Services

No. WS C2960S 48FPS uses the Universal image, but no license is required. The feature is bound to the hardware model type and cannot be changed. For convenience, a single software image is used for all Cisco Catalyst 2960-S Series Switches, regardless of whether they are a LAN Base or LAN Lite model.

2960-X is manual configurable and 2960-S is smart dont need to configure.

You can only reset password this way:
1.
Attach a terminal or PC with terminal emulation (for example, Hyper Terminal) to the console port of the switch.
Use the following terminal settings:

• Bits per second (baud): 9600
• Data bits: 8
• Parity: None
• Stop bits: 1
• Flow Control: Xon/Xoff

2.Unplug the power cable.
3. Hold down the mode button located on the left side of the front panel, while you reconnect the power cable to the switch
4. Release the Mode button when the SYST LED blinks amber and then turns solid green. When you release the Mode button, the SYST LED blinks green.
5. switch: flash_init
6. switch: load_helper
7. switch: dir flash:
8. switch: rename flash:config.text flash:config.old
Rename config.text to config.old. In that file the password is stored.
9. switch: boot
10. Enter "n" at the prompt to abort the initial configuration dialog

Try using username (none) pass public/private/secret or
cisco - cisco, ADMIN - changeme, pixadmin - pixadmin, root - attack, superuser - superuser as username - password. These are the defaults credintials for the Cisco routers.

This message indicates a hardware failure. Reboot and watch the POST and ASIC tests to see exactly what component is failing. If this device is under SmartNET contract with Cisco, contact them for replacement. If not, you will most likely need to purchase a replacement switch.

The Cisco 2960 has a life time warranty. Contact the seller and they should be able to get the switch exchanged at no cost.
