Why is there such a difference between the meat and the gravy in the friskies canned cat food, the cat's will not eat the harder and darker canned foods, Why? The difference in cans come from the same packaged amounts, Why?
Your cats are just like most cats! They learn that the gravy is the yummiest, and simply stop eating the solid bits. Fussy babies they are! I totally recommend making your own gravy from the drippings of your own roasts, etc. Or buy off cuts from your butcher, put them in deep baking trays, add lots of water to the tray, cover with aluminium foil, and bake @ 120-150 degrees Celsius for about 2 hours, let the resulting liquid cool, and viola! You have exactly the same stuff the cat food companies call 'gravy'

SOURCE: I would like to feed my cat canned food. What are the advantages of canned food over dry food?
Canned cat food has some advantages: it does not require as much additives, it contains morewater, it has higher amount of animal protein, and it contains much loweramount of carbohydrates than dried food.
If he's been eating this food in the past, is it a new bag? Maybe it's not fresh or this bag tastes a bit off? If the Vet didn't have any suggestions, I'd consider returning the bag to the pet store, explaining the situation, and trying another brand. If it isn't a health thing it's a mental thing, so maybe try wet food for a while and then ease him into a different dry food to see if that breaks the mental block that seems to be occurring?
