Proably the bearing in the end of shaft. See if head moves back and forth or unscrew head and see if shaft has a lot of play in it. If bad replace shaft.

SOURCE: HOW TO GET BRUSH CUTTER OFF FS 55

Look at the top of the head (where the brush cutter is) find the small hole about 3/16 diameter. Insert an allen wrench or a large nail, or anything else that will fit in the hole almost the same size as the hole. While putting a little downward pressure on this "tool" turn you blade slowly by hand until you feel the tool slide into the locking slot, this will hold the blade from turning. Keeping it in this position, take a socket and ratchet on the nut that is holding the blade and loosen and remove it. THE NUT HAS LEFT HAND THREADS SO TURN IT OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU NORMALLY WOULD TO REMOVE IT!!!!

SOURCE: Stihl FS 55 will not start

After trying to start several times, remove the spark plug and see if it is "wet" If it is you are flooding it. Do not pull the rope more than 3 or 4 times with the choke closed, whether it "pops" or not open the choke half way after the 4th pull and make sure you have the throttle trigger squeezed to give it gas

Purchased a used stihl fs 96 this winter. Just got it up and running and it shakes so bad I think I lost a filling

I think that is a solid shaft drive which should reduce vibration vs a flex shaft. If you can pull the drive tube and then run the engine it should tell you if it's the engine or the shaft/gear head giving the excess vibration. I would start by just removing the gear head first as there are a few bearings in there that could fail and cause it to vibrate badly.

1997 Mazda 626 while turning I'm getting a vibration ( like a thumping sound) in the front end. I also pick up a heavy vibration starting about 55-60 . I have replaced the left cv shaft, wheel bearing and...

no not typically. Have you checked out the tires closely for any signs of tread separation on the tires? That could be associated with the vibration above 55.

Trying to recoil a spring on start rope on a FS 55

No but you have to be very careful not to let spring go. curve on spring should match up with molded curve on the housing.
