Burning plastic smell, big flash & now its dead - Bosch SHU8805UC

The other night I ran the dishwasher and about half way through the cycle we started smelling burnt plastic...all of the sudden there was a bright flash and my husband ran over to open the dishwasher to stop the cycle. The diswasher is now unresponsive to any buttons I push and has about a 4 inch layer of water that wont drain. I pulled out the filter in the bottom only to find its pretty torn to shreds. Any suggestions???

BOSCH DW burned plastic smell, common problem?

Hello,
I have this exact same smell issue from the back black panel at rear of dishwasher (free standing so easy to pinpoint. I replaced the old bosch with this Bosch (approx 12 months ago) for the same reason, and am extremely disappointed to have the same issue. It is almost as though the black insulation material is disintegrating? I wonder what it is made from? Smells noxious. It is very hot to touch during a cycle too. Good luck,
Fiona

Burning Frigidaire dishwasher

After you turn off the power to your dishwasher, you can inspect the dishwasher with a flashlight to find where the melting happened. If it is near the circle that is the heating element, you can suspect the timer froze during the drying cycle.

But also open things up and look for shorted/melted wires (in the door panel and under the dishwasher.)

No matter what you find, if you have proof of purchase for your dishwasher, I would press for repair/replacement from the manufacturer.

Good Luck!

Smelled like burning plastic

Ron, is this a dishwasher or clothes washer? If a dishwasher, check the wire nuts in the junction box. If there isn't a melted wire nut from a loose connection. Then you have to pull the outer door panel, then you can pull the control panel assy. This will require a t20 torx bit.

"rubber burning" smell

check to see if the motor is overheating, the motor could
be getting hot causing the smell, if the motor is'nt overheating, then call the local repair man, we live in miami(florida), and we have a dish washer that keeps on rumbling, we are getting it fixed today, the only big big problem is it seems to draw alot of electricity when in operation, so there's my problem
p.s. is your dishwasher also rumbling and drawing electricity?

Bosch diswasher

If it is new- then the fishy smell is almost certainly the motor and circuit boards 'cooking' in- most motorized electrical devices have an initial pong. However if it persists after say 10/15 cycles begin to suspect an incipient fault.
