My samsung dlp hl-p4663w tv makes a screeching sound when turning it on then the picture fades. It sounds like a fan problem and when you turn it off it continues to screech like a fan but when it stops screeching the lamp cooling lamps still spin for about a minute. I pulled the lamp and cleaned the dust off of the 2 fans I could reach from that point but I am still getting the screech sound intermitantly. What do you think is the problem?

SOURCE: Samsung Dlp HL-R7178w not turning On.

If all 3 leds blink, it can be the lamp, ballast (lamp driver), color wheel, or dmd board (all are engine parts = engine failur). its usually the lamp, but you can listen to troubleshoot. when it turns on, you will hear the fans come up (humm..airflow noise), then you will hear the colorwheel (high pitched squeel.. it will come up to speed) and then the ballast will fire up the lamp.. if the lamp doesn't fire, you will hear the spark gap fire (a 1 second buzz noise indicating bad lamp).. the gap will fire 3 times, they tv will then retry again and again until it shuts off and kicks out the error. this power up path will help you listen to find your problem. i can assist further.

SOURCE: My RCA is screeching

To install the color wheel, turn off and unplug the tv, take off the lower back casing (17 star type screws), remove the lamp door, remove the lower back casing. Look just left of the lamp you will see 3 smaller star type screws near a small circuit board (which is on the color wheel), remove those screws unplug cable from color wheel, unplug other end of 2nd cable from tv circuit board (just to the upper left nearest to the color wheel.

All you have to do is install the color wheel, plug in both cables, put the back on and place the lamp door back in its position, the lamp door pushes in a lillte blue lever which allows the lamp bulb to light up.

I'm in the process of doing the same myself on my RCA same model. Where did you buy the color wheel from?

SOURCE: Samsung DLP HL-P4663W - loud whistling noise while the TV is on

That most probably seems to be a future issue with your color wheel, it's starting to go out, you need to identify which one you have before you purchase one, there are two kinds, one with a gold bearing and another one with a silver bearing

We have a samsung DLP tv model number HLP 4663W tv. The picture went so we replaced the bulb. Still no picture and the tv makes a noise that sounds like a fan and the tv cycles on and off by itself. ...

Yes, almost certainly a bad color wheel, see attached photo.

If you remove the lamp and look in the direction it faces you should be able to see the wheel, look for it to be missing pieces or shattered.

You Tube has detailed video instructions for replacement in most of the Samsung sets; I have replaced dozens of the wheels.

Our tv is Samsung DLP HL-P4663W 46 in. Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television After having our TV on for about 45 minutes it starts to make this hissing sound which starts low and gets louder and louder,...

hello
This looks like a colorwheel symptom, does the sound is like a mechanical sound? high pitch sound? winding, whirling or screeching noise ? well if this is the color wheel, what i think it is, it seems that it is not working properly when this happens the DMD board recognizes that it is not spinning at the correct RPM and turns off the Tv for sercurity reasons, so if you want to replace this yourself what i recommend you to do is to open the back of the Tv and search for the colorwheel it can have missing parts or it could be shattered or it could not spin correcty, hope this info. can help you.

your keeping a part that is warming up and shuts down your shutdown that protects the tv from burning up... cooler... to find this you might need a hair dryer or a can of freeze mist.
I believe the left side is your high-voltage section.
you can also let it warm-up without the fan .. let it shut down and feel parts with set unplugged to see what is running hot.

Tv sounds like motor running when turned on

It is no doubt the color wheel. Replace it soon or the ballast will also go out.
