Error 6800, with Japanese text, appeared simultaneaous with smell of something 'burning' inside printer. Changing to service mode gives a blank screen (no options to choose form). Could you suggest a line of analysis for this problem?
According to the service manual an error has occured writing to the eeprom on the logic circuit board. I would look at the logic board as a culprit . You may need to check the voltage is correct at the power point and matches the printer required supply voltage. What worries me is what caused the logic board to fail and make a burning smell. Could be a faulty voltage regulator supplying the logic board or a fault in a power board..

The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.
Solution 1:
Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.
Solution 2:
Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.
Solution 3:
Press the ink pads down in the purge unit.
