Honda generator problems

Hi, my generator is less then a year old, i did several welding projects with it but now i am experiencing less power output that i can even see a grinder blade starting up very slow before picking up speed. Welding has decrease drastically, i sense lack of power output, it serviced it once and hasnt used it for long, what do i need to look at?

Check the required oem specs for the speed. Make sure it's running at the correct rpm's otherwise if not you'll have a reduction in AC output at the receptacles.

SOURCE: Honda EU3000is generator will not start with electric starter.

I'd say your battery in the generator is going bad or bad. They are very small and do not hold a charge for very long. The noise you heard was probably the starter shaft hitting the flywheel cogs. I doubt any harm was done as long as you did not repeatedly try to start it with the key. Why Honda put a battery in these is because they are intended for use in a campground setting, where they would be used on a daily basis and the battery would constantly charged. Whereas people like us buy them for emergencies only, they sit for long periods, and the battery goes flat, and the fuel clogs the carb and we get the surging issue. That's my 2 cents. When I brought mine home new, I Sta-bil'd the heck out of the gasoline, this past winter, on start-up, the unit surges. Of course the battery was flat.

I think that your Honda has the so called "Automatic idle".
If the load falls under some minimal load (20 - 100 W) it automatically goes into it.
This option has to be cancelled or adjusted, in order to handle small loads.
Otherwise you should connect permanent load of 50 - 70 W in order to use your small consumers.

SOURCE: Slow throttle reponse to load

Put something else on the generator (like a light bulb) so that it senses a load, otherwise you wont be able to deal with the load sensing and the lag.

My WD-60735 is 2 years old and is gradually becoming darker. What is wrong? Thanks

The bulb is probably getting tired. As a lot of bulbs get older, even though they may not burn out, the total light output (lumens) drops. Another bad part to this problem is that it may use the same amount of power, which means more heat generated. Good luck, the bulb costs around $100.

Try checking the output with another appliance, the shop vac may have over heated (for whatever reason). The generator, if it encounters one, has a fault light (if memory serves) that is illuminated if anything out of the ordinary is encountered.

Mr Lucky; Seal under tank most likely is available as a seperate part, however you must search parts using engine model number and type. For example honda gx270 engine uses part # 16955-ze1-000 as replaceable part under tank. There are several engine options for your generator. I believe that you are a very lucky individual for having experienced fuel leakage on welder and not cause fire. I would certainly check to see of there is a retrofit tank for your engine that does not use a rubber adapter. Most Honda engines use a tank with thread on adapter. I would also check all fuel lines for swelling/cracking and replace with highest quality available for your safety. I worked at at rental store while attending college and witnessed the shop mechanic change out parts from new equipment when he determined weakness in design. Good luck with your welding projects.

No or little ac output

By ac you mean receptacles, not ac welding?
If so what about welding output on AC (DC)?

If welding is OK then you may have breaker or fuse problem.
If welding output is also low or no output your problem is the generator.
You should check your gen rpm to be normal. If so you may have field problem: rectifier, AVR etc.
If you can measure the field DC voltage at rated rpm, if it is missing (very low) try to find any circuit broken.
If you do not succeed answer this instruction in order to give you more.

Hi there .
All the Honda generators have 2 years full warranty (parts and labor) . Just check with your Honda dealer and make sure they call Honda tech support before any decision or you can call customer support @ 770-497-6400
and see if they can get warranty for your machine .
Hope this help.

Low voltage generator output

Hi there,
Nothing about the bumpy dirt road would have done this but the 10 years of storage might mean that you've got dirty slip rings. Plugging a drill into the 10Kw generator isn't going to tell one much about the power coming out of it, you need a stove :-)
After a camshaft replacement I'd want to use the "Hz" function of the DVM to make sure I was getting 60 Hz.

Regards,
Carl
