Why won't my printer print black with all new cartridges?

Hi. Our printer is not printing. It started out with yellow needing to be replaced. Then blue indicator. Other levels were fine, yet after ink was replaced, the printer is still not printing. Magenta was low so I replaced it as well as the black. So now there are all new ink cartridges, but it still is printing blank sheets of paper. I cleaned the printhead as well. Thanks!

Remove printhead and let it sit in a window cleaning solution and warm water mix 50/50. See video on how to remove printhead:

Remove all inks, then the printhead & sit the printhead on a soft cloth soaked in warm water - let it sit for a few minutes then reinstall, close lid then make the machine ask for the inks once the inks have then been installed it should prime the machine. If this does not work try it again & if that fails then your printhead probably needs to be replaced.

SOURCE: printing yellow for black

Hi Jan,

Can you confirm that you are using a CIS or non-HP cartridges with this printer?

It sounds a lot like the printhead has reached a clogging point where sediment has built up in the black portion and loosens enough to printer a few lines before it re-asserts itself again.

Based on my experience of this printer, if you're using a non-HP delivery system for ink then you should consider replacing the black ink with a dyebase alternative instead of pigment.. Replacing the Black/Yellow printhead and running a number of test prints to purge the pigment ink in the printhead should then result in a clean and more reliable printout in future.

One other vector for problems is the cleaning area and I've found that this can become soiled with excess ink causing cross contamination within the inks of one printhead. As yet I've not found a reliable solution to counter this sort of issue.

Hope this gives some clues and hopefully some ideas of a fix.

Martin

Many thanks for the suggestions received. Have been told by HP to
change the black printhead - which has solved the problem!

SOURCE: magenta and cyan will not print on my hp officejet

Same thing happened to my printer hp L7590. Printed diagnostic, only black and yellow printed; diagnostic for printhead health Ky=good, MC= good. Only Hp products ever used. Uplugged, & discharged static, cleaned copper parts of printhead. Still no fix. On visual examination of floor of printhead compartment rectangular pad ( approx 1/4" by 1/2") is missing. I can only guess that during the paper jam, somehow the pad got caught up and went awol. Not sure what to do now.

HP All-In-One 4500 prints YELLOW when Black is SELECTED Could this be a PRINT HEAD PROBLEM?

Hi,
The inkjet printers print colors as they combine the major 4 colors contained in the cartridges CMYK (or said in words cyan, magenta, yellow and black) in some proportion.
If you print black the printer gets ink from the black cartridge only. If the black cartridge is empty some devices start to print black as a combination of the colors in the color cartridge - for example gets some of the cyan, gets some of the magenta, gets some of the yellow.
In your case maybe some of the other colors are empty too (or the nozzles are clogged) and the printer cannot prepare the correct mixture of colors to start printing black.
I suggest you to change both black and color cartridges.
Hope this helps.

I have an HP Color LaserJet 3700 that has decided to stop printing yellow. I have changed the cartridge several times and have run all of the diagnostics/calibrations many times with no success. I want to...

Press Menu. Drill down to Diagnostics
Go to DISABLE CARTRIDGE TEST
Now swap the Yellow and Black cartridges.
Print a Config page. If Yellow doesn't print, your cartridge is bad. If Black doesn't print, you could have a bad laser/scanner

I haven't the manual for this printer color laserJet 2600n series,

document.tlSearch.tx.value=unescape("") s.gif s.gif
HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer - Installing Print Cartridges When a print cartridge approaches the end of useful life, the control panel displays a message recommending that to order a replacement. The printer can continue to print using the current print cartridge until the control panel displays a message instructing to replace the cartridge. The printer uses four colors and has a different print cartridge for each color: black (K), cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y). Replace a print cartridge when the printer control panel displays one of the following messages: Replace yellow cartridge, Replace magenta cartridge, Replace cyan cartridge, Replace black cartridge. The control panel display also indicates the color that should be replaced (unless a genuine HP cartridge is not currently installed). Change the print cartridge
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Open the front door. c00315320.gif CAUTION: Do not place anything on the transfer belt (ETB), which is located on the inside of the front door.
  3. Remove the used print cartridge from the printer. c00315321.gif
  4. Remove the new print cartridge from the bag. Place the used print cartridge in the bag for recycling. c00315322.gif
  5. Grasp both sides of the print cartridge by the blue handles and distribute the toner by gently rocking the print cartridge from front to back. CAUTION: Do not touch the shutter or the surface of the roller. c00315323.gif
  6. Remove the orange shipping locks and the orange shipping tape from the new print cartridge. Discard the shipping tape and shipping locks according to local regulations. c00315324.gif
  7. Align the print cartridge with the tracks inside the printer, and using the handles, insert the print cartridge until it is firmly seated. c00315325.gif
  8. Firmly close the front door. c00315326.gif
  9. Turn on the printer. After a short time, the control panel should display Ready.
NOTE: If a cartridge is in the wrong slot or is the wrong type for the printer, the control panel will display one of the following messages: Incorrect yellow, Incorrect magenta, Incorrect cyan, Incorrect black.
  10. Installation is complete. Place the used print cartridge in the box in which the new cartridge arrived. See the enclosed recycling guide for recycling instructions.
  11. If a non-HP print cartridge is in the printer, check the printer control panel for further instructions.
NOTE: When replacing or changing a black print cartridge, a cleaning page will automatically print. This helps prevent speckles on the front or back of printed documents. A cleaning page can also be generated using the control panel or the HP Toolbox.

Cannot get yellow to print

I had the same problem with the yellow cartridge. Yellow quit printing, put in a new yellow and still would not print yellow. I had a help file, don't know where I got it, but it suggested replacing the black ink cartridge also, even though the black wasn't low yet. Replaced the black, ran a few nozzle cleans and everything worked fine. Don't know why. Try it
