First thing you should do is to check whether the original image is clean and no dust or anything.

The next one is to clean the scanner glass. Use a clean cloth to wipe the scanner glass to make sure there is no dust or anything that might reflect the light from the scanner that can cause white spots.

Please give us update regarding this issue.

the scanner bulb assembly is unable to come to its starting position. this assembly rides on a metal spindle, rub some oil on it so that the slide becomes smoother. to reach it you will first have to remove the glass. turn the scanner upside down & prise it open with a flat screwdriver applying pressure at the rear end to separate the top & bottom half.

try uninstalling and reinstalling

I have the same PSC 2410 and contacted HP the print software is included in Leopard 10.5 but the scan is not. They have "no" plans on producing software and went as far as to recommend  third party scanner software to make it work.

When you power on the printer.
See if the scanner light move to the right and then keep on clicking.
If this happen, the scanner head is unable to find home position.
You will have to clean the strip under the glass.
If this only start to happen recently, you could unplug the printer and wait 1 hour.
Replug in the printer will at times stop the clicking.

scanner replacement is needed as this cannot be repaired,the lower printer part is perfect just the scanner parts needs replacement.it is also costly to get replaced.
