Make sure you got them mounted correctly and the brush wires on the correct brush, they are polarity sensitive. Failing that you need to re-flash the rotor with a battery, and a diode. This will re-establish the residual magnetism for rotor

SOURCE: My coleman powermate generator will start but will not generate.

The voltage regulator controls the output. You will need to check that first.

SOURCE: Coleman powermate 2500 generator :

To what I know about this model - it IS NOT inverter type. Electrical motor works pretty much like car alternator with out reftifier. The ONLY magnet on rotor is a small, 1x2 initiation magnet, that helps to start the induction current. After that, induction current thru rotor is controlled by AVR (automatic voltage regulator) in a way, that output voltage stays at needed level.

The fact that you read 2.0 volts on output - tells you that your initiation magnet is OK. One of few things went wrong, in probability order: winding on rotor, AVR module, winding on stator, brushes woar out.

Take back cover off from electric generator part, use voltmeter to measure continuity on stator (2 or 3 poles, must be within 50 ohnm), continuity of rotor thru brushes ( normally within 100ohm). If broken - have to restore windings. It is DIYable for rotor, but hardly possible for stator. If those are ok - most probably your AVR is dead, you can not test it yourself, so get a new module to try (but try to make arrangements for return, if there it was not the reason).

Just fixed Champion 3500 generator myself, purchased for $50 as broken.

This engine was not built with quiet in mind, it was built to be cheap. upgrading the exhaust is your best bet and likely the cheapest. Talk to a small engine shop about the possibility of using a muffler from an ATV.

Super Trap makes a fantastic muffler, if it will fit your application (most do). A link has been provided at the end. When you are looking at the various options, you will notice that a rating in db units. Reducing noise by 3db is half the original noise level.

if you can, go with the SuperTrapp. If still noisy (probably won't be), then add on the resonator as well. Downside to using aftermarket is that you will have an exhaust stack / system that sticks out the side of the generator. Upside is that you will be able to think quietly about how much the exhaust sticks out.

And no, I don't have any connection with Jack's, they are just the first hit that came up. Now that you know that something is available, you can do more research on it.

SOURCE: I have a 3 year old Coleman Powermate 6250

I found out you must run the generator at least once every three months otherwise the capacitor will not hold a charge. You can try to jump it by connecting the negative lead from a 12 volt battery to the left contact on the back panel and while the motor is running touch the positive terminal. If a test light is plugged it will light up but if it goes out you must replace the rectifier board which is about $30

I cannot locate the owners manual for my Coleman PowerMate 6250 generator 10 hp? Any place I can find this online quickly thank you

Most PowerMate manuals are available here: http://www.powermate.com/productmanuals.php?cat_id=3 . However, describing it as the PowerMate 6250 10 HP generator is insufficient to find the correct manual. The Coleman PowerMate line has several models with 10 HP engines and a 6250 Starting Watt (5000 W running) capacity.

These include the Powermate PM0435005; the direct link for this manual is http://www.powermate.com/pdfs/2011/12/29/pm0435005.02.pdf .

Please add a comment with the actual model number of your generator if you need further assistance with finding the correct manual for your generator.

I hope this helps.

the gensets on coleman generators are definately nothing to brag about but i would start by checking the windings and make sure the brushes have a clean armature to ride on
