Runs good for about an hour, then needs 15-30 minute rest period

2003 Z72 Commercial Husqvarna with 26 hp air cooled Kohler gas engine. Lately it will run perfect for an hour or so, then just cuts off. After sitting for 20-30 minutes, it will start and run for another hour or so, and so on. I have noticed that when it quits, both inline(clear) fuel filters are empty. I have replaced both small fuel filters from the tanks to the inverter valve, as well as the big fuel filter from the fuel pump to the injection site. No change. Any ideas?

When it's about to quit, quickly undo the gas cap. If it roars back to life, you have a vacuum problem, where the vents aren't letting air into the gas tank to replace the used fuel, so after a while, gravity isn't sufficient enough to pull gas from the tank until is sits and equalizes for a while.

Kerry Maloney's suggestion started me on the correct track when my Craftsman DGS 6500 cut out twice for no reason. There were no symptoms, I looked here then called Sears help line and they confirmed the vacuum issue. They are sending me a new gas cap, the tech also suggested taking lp air and blowing the dust/mud out of the vent hole to clear it. Or, if there is no hole, take a very small drill bit and make a hole in the middle of the gas cap.

When to change oil for the first time

Hi David:
There may be a recommendation in the owners manual.
Depending on how many hours you are running it, I would recommend:
- 1st change including filter after 25 hours (just because there may be some "run in" residue.
- Every 100 hours and at the end of each cutting season. (best not to leave used oil in an engine for long times.

Cheers

Mower shuts off after running about 5 minutes. i blew thru gas line towards tank and seemed like there was resistance tnen it opened up. ran another 5 minutes and same thing happened . model is husqvarna...

Check the fuel tank cap. It needs to let air into the tank and has a small hole to enable this. Try running the engine with the cap loosely in place to verify this is the cause. If you can't clean it get a new one.

What makes a mower lose fire?

need fuel, spark and air. Make sure air filter is clear. Best way to test this is leave it off while you try to start (or restart??). For spark, easiest way is to spray starter fluid in the carb. If it starts, you have a fuel problem. If you havent lately (or ever?), change the fuel filter.

Husqvarna Model#136 Serial#20033000836 chainsaw. When I first start my chainsaw, it starts on the first or second pull and it will run perfect until it runs out of gas. I have to wait until it cools...

Your fuel octane is GREAT ! Good to hear you are using fresh fuel. Make sure to use Husqvarna HP oil. It makes a difference of the heat generated by the engine.
1) If you can: Do not run the saw dry when cutting. As soon as you have the indication that it is almost dry, stop. Remove the fuel cap to remove pressure in the tank. Allow a 5 minute cool down before refueling.
2) I see your saw is a 2003, you may have debris under the flywheel shrouding restricting air flow: remove the recoil assembly and flywheel cover/shroud under the recoil. (if it has one)
Check to see if debris has gathered around cylinder fins.
Clean with compressed air. The ability for the flywheel to breath means more air to cool the cylinder and lower the overall operating temperature of the engine.
3) Make sure the air filter is clean and area is free of debris.
* Each item may be small, but each one builds on the operating temperature.
