ed, be sure there is nothing wrapped around the blades. lower the deck and be sure the belt is around all of the pullys. If the belt comes off one of the pulleys or the pulley on the engine it may feel normal but it wont engage the blades.
Its actually really easy. First, determine the size of your mower deck. Is it 30" 42" 54" etc. Then, go to a home improvement store like Lowes or The Home Depot (or an online retailer.) Search for a replacement belt for your deck size. Removing the old one is easy. Pry back the retainers on the engine pulley and slip the belt off of the pulley. This should make it very easy to pull off the mower deck. Installation is the opposite of removal. Make sure you note the belt arrangement for proper installation. Good luck!
you most likely have a bad safety switch. there is one under your seat, one on engagement lever for blades, and probably one or two more in other places.start with the one under your seat by unplugging it and then going ahead with normale start up and implement engagement. you will have found the bad switch when everything works as it should.replace switch if you feel its necessary or just leave unplugged. it will not affect performance or longevity of the tractor
