If its the port on the cradle, you can buy them on ebay cheaper then fixing it.

Magellan RoadMate 700

All navigation units are GPS Receivers - that is - they receive satellite signals. So, no there is no difference.

It may be the cradle is damaged. If any of those tongs are bent it could lose connection meaning your must now spend $70 to buy a new one which will also eventually malfunction. They've jacked up the price from $30 when I bought a new one to $70 in just a couple of years knowing it was a bad product and they keep breaking. I have a looooow opinion of Magellan at this point.

Power problems and ......

Hi,
All these problem will arise when the cradle becomes faulty.
Cradle will be at the backside of the unit.Where you plug the unit .When that particular cradle becomes faulty means the unit will turns off automaticly...So to over come this problem just replace the cradle the problem will be resolved .......

Road mate 700

The flash card hole is supposed to be empty - all you need should be on the hard disk BUT the first Roadmate 700 I purchased was empty i.e. no software loaded. The second failed due to bad power connection, the third worked but was factory refurbished! what a crass organisation Magellan is!!!

Try fiddling with the power connection that goes into the cradle that the unit sits on. The power connection is ultra sensitive. BUT, if you've only just bought the unit then you are in luck - return it and get your money - back Magellan Support is extremely poor.

I am binning my Roadmate and getting a Tomtom720 Go series with maps and cameras preloaded - it auto updates when it is on its cradle attached to my PC/internet.

Bin the Magella - 4 years of problems!!!!

Magellan RoadMate 700 GPS unlockmap

Steve, In this case I would replace the Hard drive. But, since you probably don't have spare HDD's lying around.. do you atleast have the Software version? Some CD that came with it hopefully. If you do, then you may be able to stay alive here. Once your system boots to the user screen.. press + and repeat key at the same time.. "secret" menu now. ONLY IF YOU HAVE SOFTWARE TO INSTALL!! Select NAND FLASH FORMAT.. The unit will shut down after formatting. start up your software installer on computer. plug usb in.. and power on unit. This fix isn't %100, but it's the best shot you have. Otherwise you've gotta send it down here to Texas (where magellan repair is) and pay for the new hard drive. OR.. you could call customer service and see what they have to say. you'll probably be transferred to overseas.. --good luck with that -Dan
