If it has sat, it may have lost it's rotor residual magnetism. Disconnect the rotor field wires at the AVR or on the exciter/brushes. Note they are polaroty sensitive. Connect a 12V battery to F+ and F- (note polarity) and momentarilly power from the battery for a few seconds. DO NOT forget to disconnect the rotor/exciter field wires first or the voltage regulator will be damaged. If it hasn't sat check voltage regulator, rotor resistance, and stator resistance, and for shorts to ground.

SOURCE: i need an owners manual for a chicago electric generator

ago electric Generator Manuals\r\n
The Harbor Freight web site has PDFs for most of these generators. Go to.
http://manuals.harborfreight.com/manuals/XX000-XX999/XXXXX.pdf
Replace the first two XXs with the first two digits of the model number, and the last XXXXX with the model number.
For example, the manual for model 65414 would be on the following page.

How do I connect 2 1850 watt coleman generators together to have at least 3500 watts to run my camping trailer?

It wont work. Electricity does not work like that. you can't double the power just by doubling the watts or amps. there is a lot and lots of other things involved.
I would rewire you camper so that half is run be one generator and the other half by the other generator... SO lights and fridge on one and plugs and heater on the other maybe...

Gas in oil

Maybe. Put a pan under the genset, drain the oil, leave the drain plug out until you figure out why the carburetor was allowing too much fuel to flow (likely a stuck float). When you think that you have it figured out, replace the drain plug, add fresh oil, remove spark plug, and perform a compression check to see if the rings are worth it. If compression is low, then you can decide if it is worth your time and expense to repair the engine.

If memory serves, Harbor Freight sells compatible, if not identical, engines that will fit this generator.

Generator starts with and runs great, but theres no current on my toy hauler

Johnny,

If generators are not used regularly, they need the their magnetic field to be charged (or flashed). This can be done by plugging an electric motor into the socket while the generator is running and spin the motor by hand. The hand-spun motor will push some electric current back into the generator and magnetize it enough to start it.

Look in the manual. There is likely something about field flashing the magnetic field2.gif. The easiest way to do this is to.
1) start the generator
2) plug an electric drill into the generator (without drill bit)
3) make sure drill is set to forward direction (if a reversable drill.
4) pull the trigger on the drill.
5) If the drill does not start, spin the drill's chuck clockwise (When looking down at the chuck from the drill bit end). Spin counter-clockwise if holding it like a pistol and pointing away from yourself.
6) Do this several times (hard) until the the generator will kick in and suddenly make the drill spin at full speed.
Be careful not to drop the drill or poke someone with it as you celebrate success.

Electric start is not working. How do I start it with out the auto start?

turn the auto starter off, you should have a key switch like a car or a push button. if not and, if your unit is equipped you'll have to use the pull starter. good luck.

No electric power generated from my Coleman Powermate Maxa 5000W.

the gensets on coleman generators are definately nothing to brag about but i would start by checking the windings and make sure the brushes have a clean armature to ride on
