How to fix kitchenaid kbfc42fts bottom freezer builds up ice and leaks on floor

Ice forms on bottom inside of freezer, leaks out the door which will not close properly when the ice forms. Defrosted, removed all ice but problem returns.

The drain line is clogged go around the back of machine take off back cover and you will see a drain line coming through the floor and at the end of it is a rubber grommet. The rubber grommet is clogged up just take it off and throw it out and then turn off machine for 24 hrs with doors open to melt out all the ice

SOURCE: I have what appears to be a water leak of some

Check to be sure your ICE door chute is closed or closing properly! I have encountered many of these units that have had the flap break off the mounting tabs inside the dispenser opening. If the flap appears to be intact, I would next guess that your ice maker timing is allowing the ice maker to over fill and spill water into the ice bucket.
You can confirm this problem by looking at the ice maker and seeing if the ice cubes in it are filled right up to the center bar that drives the cubes out of the mold.
Let me know if you have any more questions!
Thanks, BOB

SOURCE: Water leaking from ice/water dispenser

hi there,

you may have a kink in the water line leading to the icemaker. the leak is due to warm water entering the icemaker itself. i would also check the water valve in the icemaker itself and ice actuators or paddles to any breakage.

SOURCE: water leaking/freezing in bottom of freezer

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help

The drain in the freezer behind back lower panel
needs opening. You can see it at the bottom of the back panel
underneath the evaporator coils. (The cold coils)
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
When the defrost melts the water it goes down the drain
If the drain is clogged with Ice or ? The defrost water
overflows into the ref. or freezer or on floor
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

Plugged drain

Need to completely defrost freezer. hot rags, hot water, paper towels, etc. Until you get all the ice out you don't have a chance of unclogging the drain. Could be just ice clogging it too which in that case hot water will solve that as well. If it's something else clogging the drain, I've used a mini bottle brush to unclog them or even a stiff piece of solid wire.

Ice forming in the bottom of the freezer. eventually melting and ending with water running on the floor from both corners of freezer

Check the seal on the door and make sure it is "sound". Pay particular attention to the bottom or underside of the freezer door / drawer. Make sure nothing is preventing a seal between the fridge case and door. Misfigured, distorted or otherwise damaged seals can cause frost build up as you describe. Clear any objects / replace damaged seals found.

Good luck!

Water freezing on floor of freezer and leaking on to floor in front of freezer?

I have narrowed my similar problem (with a KitchenAid) down to a leak in the ice maker refill line. To test if this is your problem also, scrape the ice out, then turn off your ice maker (raise the lever as if it is full) and see if ice no longer forms down at the bottom over the next few days.

Discovered ice build up on bottom of freezer in side by side KitchenAid Superba. Figure it is a defrost drain clog.... How do clear the clog?

I have ice in the bottom of my freezer section also in an older one of these, but I have traced it down to some sort of leak in my ice maker line. It only occurs when the ice maker is making ice, and not when the ice tray is full. Mine also leaks through the front door seal and into the floor if I don't keep scraping out the ice from the bottom (to clear out the "reservoir" that holds the water till it turns to ice).

I came on this site looking for a way to locate the leak and get to it. You might try scraping out the ice and turning off the ice maker for a while and see if the ice no longer forms at the bottom. Then at least you have localized it a little!

Ice at the bottom of the freezer

It sounds like the freezer has leaking door seals and air is getting in to the freezer compartment. Your temperatures are set about right. Regards
